Berger, Suzuki and Capelli

Was it a charity race or parade laps?

was Berger always that tight in the McLaren?

Could you elaborate, please?

And do keep in mind that a lot of folk here on TNF don't watch the GPs any more (if that's what you're referring to)...

:)

Gerhard Berger, Ivan Capelli and Argui Suzuki did a demo in their old F1 cars around the Suzuka track at the weekend of the Japanese Grand Prix.

Berger with his old McLaren, Capelli with the Leyton March and Suzuki in his Larrousse Venturi car.

Alesi and Nakajima was there too.

I doubt if bigears was there in person, RH...

So, having myself now failed in seeing the pics on the AS site you alluded to, I can only conclude from your comments that the aforementioned ex-F1 drivers didn't *kick ass* on their 'demo' laps...

Is that your point?

You might get 'spanked' for wrecking the English language though...

your = you're

Sorry Rexx, it just jars with me AND it's a Monday morning and it's raining outside. :|

Thank god it jars with someone else and it isn't even raining!

On the original subject you might find that Herr Berger has put on the odd kilo or three which is why it is a fight tit!

I'm afraid this whole thread jars with me.

If it takes until post Number ten for the original poster to explain what he is talking about then clearly someone is failing to communicate!

Rexx Havoc, Does it really take that much effort to say "In the photos of the Japanese GP there are pictures of ..." or something like that?

As this is a thread coming from nowhere and going back in that direction, may I give it a useful twist:

"TWINNY WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOUR AVATAR???!!!"

Looks like Twinny has been abducted by Bjorn's Transporter thread!!
... unless that's another derivative of a Morris Isis ... oh, no ... everyone keeps insisting the C-series is NOT a truck engine!

Truck or not it still keeps up the "Twin Windows" theme, personally I prefer the original and hope that Stuart's helmet can be restored (if you see what I mean).

re: Stuart's transmogrified avatar - it's the rear-end of a twin-window Beetle (rather than a truck), isn't it?
(Or is that name preferred for the models with the split windscreens?)

It's not a Beetle, surely? Some old American sedan?
I thought it was quite a nice subtle alternative to his usual one, actually...

It is more rounded at the bottom...

Tony
You must have blinked and missed the avatar I mentioned ... for a brief time, Twinny had the split front windscreen of some 1930s or 40s commercial vehicle ... probably Morris Commercial .... then switched to the present rear window .. still unidentified, but I'd go with a 30s American of some sort?

In response to DAB's idea about a name change, I think it should become "sticky" and be called "A place to say something about Twinny's Avatar du Jour"

Yes, I guess I blinked! And didn't look too closely at the current one... (Never trust Stuart with his Photoshop though...!)
However, I did see the brief dalliance he had with Jacky Ick's blue twin-window Bell after the original one.

In case people are confused, I put up 'Tatra?' and then realised that you would always see the 'spine' and deleted the post. In the meantime David answered.

Sorry

Then I used the [correctly-identified] Ickx pic, followed by the white/cream saloon which, I believe, is an Austin...

Isn't that an Austin 10 or something?

Really looks more Morris or Wolesley in the front, but the back is pure ugly Austin.

The laps don't look particularly spirited, especially Suzuki's, whose car gives up on the opening tour. Still, nice to see them giving a demo.

And to go back to the question in the first post, Berger never really fitted in any of the McLarens he drove. I recall that his accident in Phoenix in his first race for the team was down to not being able to quickly wind on enough opposite lock.

Am I too wide of the mark to suggest a Swallow-bodied "something" ... ? Don't have the book to hand, but I recall seeing a very similar style in one of the early secitons of Andrew Whyte's classic "Jaguar" book.

That's what I though too, but I couldn't work out which car it was based on. Did Swallow body any Swift cars (I'm thinking that as the mascot looks like a bird), or had Swift gone belly-up by the time Swallow got into their stride?

Failing that - Hillman Aero Minx, methinx.
