However, scanning and posting pics is far more interesting than what I actually did do. As an aside, I have just calculated that I have, roughly, 50,000 colour and B&W negs and 5,000 transparencies (many of which have never seen the light of day and one or two of which are actually in focus) and, at random, I am currently selecting a few from 1982 to bore you with.

I have seen a selection of the " Cox Collection " and can assure the Forum that Alan's retirement will be good news for us over the coming months :)

Not a brilliant shot from an 80's Brands Festival meeting.

Car 19 is Damon Hill. Is the car a Swallow?

I think you may well be right.

Next question. Did Hill do the end of season Grandstand Championship, before, during or after his FF1600 years of 84 & 85?

Andy Kitson's print of Damon Hill's cars will reveal all :)

Interesting to note that Ken Hensley Racing was founded by Uriah Heep guitarist Ken Hensley. The underrated Ian Taylor beat Tiff to the 1976 British FF2000 championship by a single point.

In the 1st pic, I think behind the 'big 3' are Adrian R in the Oselli SF76 (not his usual car that year as I recall), Vermilio in the Merlyn, and Stuart Baird, perhaps, in the Brook Hire Hawke DL14.

Phil, 'No More Heroes' like Millington and his team-mate Sir Tony Suggy any more are there? And didn't I say Bernard V, Allen? The FF2000 qualifying race that day was won by Syd Fox, from fellow legends Divi and Frank Bradley. A 'Golden Brown' day indeed.

Sorry Dan, I can't count. You named six cars and I thought I was seeing seven. To be honest, I didn't believe you could possibly identify a car from just a sliver of colour and a helmet. I must learn not to underestimate you.

Mr Vermilio's white helmet with the distinctive "V" are the giveaway here, Allen, as ardent followers of FF at that time will probably recall

Same model definitely Phil, and I think, the same car too. Only a few FF2000 Merlyn's ever made, as well as Bernard V, Rob Cooper had one in 75-76 FF2000 here.

Apparently it's not the same car, although it is the same colour, and is correct in all period details, including the stubby front wings. I have a feeling that Antony Raine, the owner, told me it was the Rob Cooper car.

The thread's called "Early FF2000 Information", and it doesn't come much earlier than this...

On 28th September 1974, there was a Formula Three race at Oulton Park where the very first FF2000 cars (about five of them) were allowed to join in. F3 was having a bad season in '74, and it made sense.

Does anyone have a full entry/results list for this race? The reason I'm asking is that we have someone who wants to race in Historic FF2000 who has a car which is similar to one which is supposed to have competed at Oulton.

Any info or snippets greatfully received...

Alan,
I no longer have the relevant M News I'm afraid but I was having a look at Stefan's 'F2 Register' site. He gives results for the 28/9/74 meeting and mentions that the F3s ran with the FF2000s. I don't know my cars well enough to tell if these results are F3 only or whether there are some FF2000s too. Perhaps they are in the 'etc'! If so, sorry to waste your time......

Lombard North Central Formula 3 race featured Class B for FF2000 cars. 5 cars were entered as follows:

15 Ian Taylor Dulon 2000/Driver Holbay
16 Robert Joubert Brabham BT41/JNM Racing Vegantune
18 Chris Pryer MRE 74SF/Driver Rowland
19 Bernard Vermilio Van Diemen/Driver Scholar
20 Richard Morgan Crossle/Southern Organs Int.Race Team Scholar

Sadly, model numbers lacking as per the programme. I have no copy of results, nor confirmation that all appeared.

PS I have to say that I hadn't realised that a BT41 ever appeared in FF2000

I'm fairly certain that this is one of the programmes I have referred to previously here on TNF and I'm more than happy to have a look and let you have the race day entry list programme scan.

More interestingly, my wife found my 1973 slides last weekend, which suggests other years are now possibly in reach and I am sure I have some shots of the said cars.

I will be in the UK this weekend and will let you know.

That's great! I am particularly interested in the Van Diemen that Bernard Vermilio drove.

The BT41 that Robert Joubert drove must be an F3 car that was put into the FF2000 entry list by mistake - there are very many ways in which a BT41 would not be eligible for FF2000...

Photographic proof would be useful, Ted. I had a look through your FF2000 pictures at Stoneleigh, and don't remember seeing one of the Van Diemen.

We're probably going for championship status next year, and will need a registrar...

The details in Alan Cox's post are absolutely as printed in the programme, thus:

Lombard North Central Formula 3 race featured Class B for FF2000 cars. 5 cars were entered as follows:

16 Robert Joubert Brabham BT41/JNM Racing Vegantune

Joubert's (F3) Brabham started on the fourth row, but Vermilio's FF2000 Van Diemen failed to take the start.

Taylor won from Prior (correct spelling?), whilst Morgan was credited with fastest lap in the FF2000 section.

The top picture shows Neil Fowler in the Lola T580 he has rebuilt from a box of bits (he did a 47.6 in it apparently, and may use it at Silverstone on the 15th instead of his Reynard)

Just out of interest, the entry for the Historic FF2000 race at Silverstone currently stands at 45 (max grid size is 44) - it should be an impressive sight.

Rumour/Legend has it that due to the fact this car has modified front suspension ( As requested by a certain Brazilian ) it is indeed a ex - Senna chassis

Anybody able to confirm that the legend is indeed correct?

Wow Alan! Is Monsieur Schoysman a pseudonym or misprint... Dirk perhaps? I've heard of Saunier Duval, weren't they central heating or similar? I suspect its the wonderful John Bartlett's car, a T81 I think, SD were linked with him.

Call me naive but I was just wondering... why the mocking ‘wonderful’ comment on your post of 14th Oct? Found the comment/question by mistake whilst Googling something unconnected (I'm not used to using forums but can’t help asking!.... Anyway, the car was a Delta T80, updated to T81 Spec by Nick Crosley and was fitted with a Titan engine. It was Dirk Schoysman (who now lives in Germany).

Many apologies John, another v poor attempt at sarcasm/humour on my behalf. It was just that you always seemed to attract a lot of column inches in the weeklies in the 80s, dare I say more than the average midfield runner. I guess you were/are a good publicist, nowt wrong with that! And you usually had more interesting cars than the average racer, viz the Delta, the Bardon and the Lola T610. Good to hear from you, got any good stories of that era?

I've had an email from Eddie Jones (son of Aiden, the Shannon F1 creator), asking for information about his FF2000 career. Apparently in 1979 he got on the front row twice, once at Mallory, and once at Oulton. On both occasions qualifying was wet, but the race was dry so he fell back on his worn-out slicks. The car he was driving was a two year old Dulon MP20. Does anyone have any pictures of him, or copies of time sheets?

Any help or recollections gratefully received.

Alan, I was at most Mallory meets that year Alan, and a good few were v wet! Just checked, and I can't see that Eddie was ever on the front row. He did practice 10th out of 20 at the, wet, May 7th meeting there, in that old Dulon, which was pretty good in that car, but not front row. He didn't enter most of the other races there that year, though the next week he quallied 12th out of 35 cars in total - there was a non-quallies race too.

Mr Hunter's Royale started life as an FF1600, David has 'converted' it to the spec it is in now so that he is more competitive when hillclimbing on the continent. BTW it isn't in FF200 spec or anything like!

Its an RP31 then, ever so slightly more competitive than the RP32. Bob Marston really didn't do the job for Royale did he, at least not in single seaters.
