Hi guys,

I am new on here and thought i would post up!!

I have seen and read many pages on this forum via search engines and thought it best to get involved and see what its all about.

I have a question for some of the "slightly" older types! My dad used to race for a few seasons back in the mid to late 70's in the Super Saloon / Special Saloon series. He built a hybrid Mazda Chevrolet RX3 with a F5000 Chevy V8. He was good friends with Nick Whiting back in the day and was some stiff competetion against the works motor.

I am keen to see if there are people out there who may have any fottage or pictures of his car. He's just recently had his 60th and it would make a great present if i could dig anything up.

Thanks in advance

Geoff

Hi there, thank you for the nice welcome. Unfortunately we share the same name, so erm...Geoff Clement.

I had a look on the link but i couldnt find anything. There was an old article of his car in Car and Car Conversions called "Monster Brew", but id like some more pics on it.

Cheers

Geoff I recall your Dad's Mazda Chev, was it a home-made special? At that time RX3s were all the rage in Prodsaloons, but I think his was unique as a Spec/Supersaloon.

I hope you don't mind me saying, but it wasn't usually at the front end of the grids as I recall, but very welcome for the variety factor! No pics I'm afraid, but I remember it as being a smart red device. I have a very vague memory of seeing it on a trailer at a house near where I lived in Leicester one time. Would this be correct, or am I confusing it with another car?

Hi "Mallory Dan"

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately i wasnt even thought about when dad was racing, but from stories he tells me and some fottage i have seen from Lyden Hill it was one of the quickest on the grids, but as with all home built beasts it did suffer from some reliability issues.

That being said, he unnoficially held the lap record at lyden hill which still to this day beats Rod Birley's Escort Cosworth (when he raced a month or so back) which is pretty impressive given the power/technology that the escort has.

In answer to your question, yes it was a home made car designed completely on his own with some neat design ideas, such as radiators mounted in the rear arches of the car. All the suspension was designed/fabricated by himself, running F5000 tyres, 17inch at the rear and 14" at the front.

I'll have to get some pics and post therm up here. Hopefully that will jog a few more memorys.

Cheers

Geoff
