CAVEAT EMPTOR :....Anything on this site that says 5-6 weeks delivery you will never get it.
Just given up on them with Michael Cotton's 'Blue & Orange'
After 3 months said they could not supply
Got it from Chaters ( same price) in a couple of days.
Avoid books offered 'secondhand' on Amazon you end up dealing with a private seller and as usual that spells disaster. First hand experience on this issue.
Much better to deal with friendly specialists even if more expensive.

I have used Chaters before, and very good they are to, just did not think that Amazon would have a problem....their warehouse on the M1 is large enough

That's Sebring 1969 and P1049, entered by Auto Enterprizes and driven by Francis Grant and Dieter Quest. This is the former Grady Davis car (April 1966) which started the whole Gulf JWA Ford GT40 program.
Wonderful photo. Love those GT40s.
Thanks,

I also note that FORD is on the nose of the car - makes me wonder if this GT40 had some road use prior to Sebring.
Any thoughts?

Davis had Dick Thompson drive P1049 in SCCA events in 1966 but it had to run in C Modified because the GT40 was not accepted as a production vehicle yet. More pictures at [url]www. VIRhistory.com of its early days.

I have a request if not too much bother, I am in the process of building up a replica of a Mk.II and am looking for a good photo of the Fern Leaf decal that the McLaren/Amon car carried behind the front left wheel during the 1966 Le Mans race.
The best one I have found so far is in "The Ford that beat Ferrari" but sadly there is a reflection right in the middle of it - typical eh.
Many thanks if you can help

What fern leaf decal? I checked several pictures but can't see a fern leaf decal behind the front left wheel.

According to John Horsman in his new book John Wyer was very upset that several days of development time were lost for this trip to New York.

Very true, the above pictures of the GT40 at the airport in April 1964 are copyrighted by the NVSAAC (probably sourced at Ford) btw.
Don't forget that the fibre bodies went from the US to UK much earlier. They are pictured at Fords design studio on October 10th, 1962!
We are doing more research in the design transfer/marriage with the Lola chassis from the design team perspective, although this is certainly "mined terrain" as we got aware during our initial post here back then. Anyway we accept any other opinion and listen now more to the genuine people.
Guess that Shelbys recent Octane July editorial "true GT40 story was never told" and some hints along the research are reason enough to shed some more light on the early period of the GT40 programm, although there is some resistance out there....

FELIC/1002 was owned by a friend of mine Roger Douglas-Hughes and my goodness he had a monster crash coming to work to his law practice one morning in Saffron Walden Essex.
He had the car car rebuilt and said he would keep it till he died.
In the late 80s he sold it to Bell & Colville for £650,000. A huge sum then.
Or as he put it..'a life changing' amount...and he was very well off.
Looking at the limited pages of Ronnie Spain's book available to me on the web, courtesy of Amazon, I see that Martin Colvill is shown as owning / having owned 1021 & 1084, but no mention of 1002 which may have been a vehicle trade on, I am wondering if anyone can enlighten me as to which car Martin was driving at the BGP meeting on 17 July 1982 as seen above ?
Relevant answers maybe used and credited in a forth coming blog, thanking you in anticipation of your responses.

Bobby Bell tended to drive 1002
Without reference to the Spain book, my notes do not have Bell & Colvill as an owner of 1021

From the Spain book:
1002 Bought from Brian Classic on 30 March 1972 by roger Douglas-Hughes in Essex, via Willie Green, who persuaded him to paint it yellow..... heavy road accident in mid 70s... restored to standard Mk1 trim in metallic blue with black interior. Roger still owns the car (1986)
1021... badly crashed by Colin Crabbe at Brands in August 67, rebuilt and sold to David Walter who used it purely as a road car. It later sat for a while unsold in the Bell and Colville showrooms in 1970, before being returned to Walter.
I seem to have two copies of the Spain book, given the current price, one of them will have to go!

Ronnie Spain with Jan McLaren & Bruce's Le Mans winner at the Goodwood Revival this year,
Ronnie hardly ever comes up for air, an amazing character and an incredible source of information.
I was talking to Jan earlier in the year and I said to her that I had seen Bruce's Le Mans winner in a workshop in California back in 91 when it was being restored. She mentioned then that she had never seen it before and was hoping to see it at Goodwood.

Unfortunately there are a number of differences between the restored car and the car as raced, and a number of models, in particular the recent Trumpeter 1/12th scale model, are perfect replicas of the car as it is now rather than as the race winner. It didn't have the NZ fern on the front wing (as requested by craigb above) nor the McLaren stickers on both side windows. I have not found an accurate model of this car in any scale, not even the expensive Exoto models, though these do have the correct fern and badges .

FEL1C was last in the ownership of Allen Lloyd who raced it comprehensively-won Spa 6 hours about 15 years ago with Gerry Wainwright. When I last saw it its originality had been somewhat trashed in order to make it a competitive''historic' car.
FWIW FEL 1C -its Uk registration number stood for F English Ltd, FEL 2 C is on-or was until recently- a gloriously battered 1966 Land Rover.

Further to my question about Martin Colville's 1084, I see on this link there is a suggestion that 1004 was rebuilt into 1084 by JW Automotive, wondering if anyone can confirm this from Ronnie Spain's bible on the subject ?

Unfortunately there are some errors in the holy book....
As Porgy & Bess sang:
"The things that you're liable to read in the Bible, it ain't necessarily so".
I'm led to believe that Ronnie is producing the new version partly to correct the few errors which can now be corrected with hindsight.

Wasn't 1084 the "heavy" JWA GT40 ? I seem to recall reading that it didn't have all of JWA's latest lightweight-spec construction that 1074 / 1075 / 1076 had.

OK image scrutinizers... here's the quick story, I am looking for a specific photograph(s) taken during the filming of the movie "Grand Prix". The shot(s) would be of the GT40 camera car during the filming at the Watkins Glen GP. The specifics: there was a young boy, around 10 years old in that GT40 while it was in the hot pit area and maybe even on track. That kid is a ol' pal of mine and it would be an awesome thing if we were to discover a photo of him in the car. Modest reward if discovered! Thanks!!

From memory, I think the front (of the car, not the lovely Emma) had been butchered so that a nasty ray gun thingy could rise out of it and cause havoc. Just a cheap old racing car then, of course, so such things tended to happen.

Well, I spent a lot of time the other day reading the whole of the "Grand Prix - the outtakes" thread and there were certainly pix from the Glen there, including the camera car (GT 40). Don't know if that's any help - can't remember exactly they appeared in the thread but an enjoyable time will be guaranteed looking for them.....plenty of pix of Francoise Hardy too, if that's where you're at!
Good luck - Mike

You can also try contacting the good people at the International Motor Racing Research Center (IMRRC) in Watkins Glen to see if this moment is caught in any of their archive photos.
