In the book "Fangio Cuando el Hombre es más que el Mito" of Roberto Carozzo, the author says that Fangio personally tested the F-3 Brabham at Silverstone before buying the cars for the Automundo magazine team. The author says also that Fangio was quicker than Brabham and Hulme after made only a few laps. I think that this happened in 1964 or 1965 (but I am not sure). Anynone has an article or photos of such event????????????????.

Yes, I was given a copy recently by Denis Lupton, from memory it was an article written by Jack himself. See if I can find it for you unless someone can beat me to it.

I remember pictures of him being in shirt & tie, it was a spur of the moment thing.

I do not recall him being faster than Black & Denny. Though I would buy it.

Written by Jack?

Well, I'd hardly think it was reported that Juan Manuel was quicker than he or Denny! And I don't recall that it said that either... it was in his column in Motor Racing, was it not?

I think it was also earlier than 1964.

In Motor Racing, December 1965, Brabham wrote: "During our day there [Silverstone] Fangio couldn't resist taking his coat off and putting in one lap in one of the F3s. It was rather against te rules, and I didn't know he was going to do it. but he was mighty quick, and his performance made me think that he could still see off most of the world's drivers (though he had a little trouble getting out of the tight cockpit when he had finished!)"

Brabham himself also drove, lapping in 1 min 39.4. In the Grand Prix meeting that year, Roy Pike set an F3 lap record of 1min 41.4.

Thanks Roger... showing my memory to be nice and faulty regarding the date, but confirming that Fangio wasn't said to have beaten Jack and Denny's times.

Jack was also suitably impressed with Fangio's driving 13 years later, of course...

Thank you very much for the data. The information that Fangio was quicker than Hulme and Brabham didn´t come from Fangio, it was a friend of him, but in the book there are not any times to make the comparation. But I am sure that the Maestro did a superb exhibition of his skills seven years after his retirement.
