I haven't seen the 2006 pics you mention as being on another thread.

Having now retired, I'm all for ego trips - can you please tell me where to find them?

Ta![/b]

Larry, nae bother! as we say in Scotia. It was on page 504 of the 1969-1990 nostalgia 2 thread, when I first popped in here myself:
page 504, 1969-1990 nostalgia 2

ps. the pics are a mix of some my son took, some from old Boots cd's copied from 35mm film (how old fashioned is that?) some from our family iPhoto file, some info' I got from my diaries (like meeting Anthea at Ballabeg) so the dates are best guesses.

Thanks Johnny - I'd forgotten all about that, even though I put up a post in the middle of it!!

I do remember Andy's comment about skin on the wall though - mind you, it's the only way to get through there quick !!

Thanks again

Sorry about the quality but this photo an original by Ronald Hunt, is 15" x 20" and I can't scan it on my A4 scanner.

Any ideas where I could get it scanned?

Also I have one the same size, somewhere, of Fred Neville. I will try to find it and have a go at scanning it.

Hang on Russ, I will find it!

If you drop in to a colour copy shop they could shrink copy it to A4, then you could scan it.

That fence in the background must have been a daunting sight as you whistled down into the braking area for the hairpin !

Good stuff, John, thanks. I've seen several shots of Fred on bikes with with seriously bent megaphones - always on it, as they say nowadays.

Yes Bob Mac and all taken on an old Brownie camera. There appears to be a Vincent engine in the outfit but can I find my 1959 Silverstone Saturday program....??

That's a pretty impressive Brownie shot of McInytre, germanty. I'll search amongst my stuff for the programme.

Don't recognise the red/black fairing, otherwise I might have picked Alan Barnett as #9...
Malcolm Uphill 10 and Cooperman #11, and possibly John Hartle on #14 on his way to that big, over-the-front crash.
If so, that would make it the '68 Senior.

It is 68 but thats the only info I have, I reckon probably Barnett at #9 too, and agree on Hartle.

Yes, with Bill Smith perhaps at 14? I wonder if number 9 is one of Ray Cowles' bikes; Selwyn Griffiths maybe ? I've never seen a Kirby bike in red and black/green, although it does resemble Barnett's head gear. Wasn't this Alan's first TT year - too low a number then? It seems Blanchard didn't start, out with injury maybe?

I think there is something strange about this photo why are Barnett and Uphill so far away from the startinf boxes ? even Ago and Tate look out of place No 11 looks right in line Bill Lawrence

A few more familiar faces from '68 here..

250s at the Gooseneck and the Creg, 500s at Keppel Gate and 350s at the Creg, Hillberry and Signpost.

Think I spotted Selwyn Griffiths on the Ray Cowles Matchy #21.

Looks like those four were spanned right across the road Bill, I've never seen that either.

You beauty ! Thanks Phil, nice work. That must be the unfortunate Hartle further down the grid behind the mystery guest in the yellow jet helmet. (Did he race under #22 that year ?).
Now that I squint more, the lower of Bill Smith's fairing is indeed white.

Yes , Glenn , John did indeed race as #22 that year , also entered by Ray Cowles , is that #34 to the right ?? , if so , it is a certain T Rutter , who went on to better days , after riding the 499 Norton he is on here .......................................

Incidentally , I meant that the guy with the yellow helmet was Derek Woodman

It looks like they are all starting from individual grid slots which are painted on the road, was this an experiment they tried one year?

Possibly these grid slots were originally used in the morning of this particular day for the mass start of the 50 cc class??

Would that this be that 50cc start ? Two local lads to me on this one. 15 Don Juler (Itom) and 16 Arthur Lawn (Honda) This I believe was the very last TT mass start 1968. I hear Arthur is now in very poor health. Best wishes to him and his family.

In case there's someone out there as mystified by the ways of the interweb as myself, it seems to be a good idea to clear your cookies on a regular basis and, if using Photobucket as a hosting site, to ensure this is set up on the private option. A perioodic change of password is a good idea too. I would also steer clear of Imgur and postimage.

Trevor it is, Larry, well done. I was reading something a while back about his exploits with the Guzzi in GP's. I remember being impressed by what appeared to his lack of racing experience before somehow getting onto the GP scene and performing really well. I think he still has the bike and perhaps parades it? Tommy Robb is on facebook and I had messaged him asking if he could recall who it was. Hopefully he'll have a gander at us at some point.

Tommy responded on fb to say that he not only knew and liked Trevor but had ridden the Guzzi in the picture. He explained that after the factory MZ's that Derek Minter and himself were contracted to ride at Monza in '59 were late in arriving, Arthur Wheeler - someone Tommy remembers fondly - offered him the Guzzi during practice in order that he could begin to learn the circuit.
