It's also quite an interesting view from behind the wheel there too... A great track to drive on. I recall Bob Holden coaching one of the Japanese import drivers who was brought out to drive a Corolla in one of the endurance races there. The Jap guy wasn't on the pace in practise and Bob was telling him that if he hoped to do a good time he had to hold it flat under the bridge onto the straight. "But it gets up on 2 wheels if I do that...." - "Now you're getting it - you have to be up on 2 here if you want to do a lap time..." said Bob.
Good track ;)

Would Motorfilms Quarterly (David Weguelin and Doug Nye ) be able to in some way license some of this material and issue it that way ? Motor sport 50 years old is always going to be interesting.

The cost is astronomical to license - try $40 per second - which I believe is a standard going rate to anyone be it a TV network or production house...........consequently hardly anyone is interested.

Yes. It was actually the first facility designed as dual purpose for both horse and motor racing. Sandown is the only horse race track developed in the 20th century in Australia, and by then there were miles of drainage etc. that had to be laid before then trying to establish the turf for long enough to have strong enough roots to withstand the horse traffic.

I'm actually a student of the original form of horsepower as well. :)

Yeah, I've got that one...

Transcribed to video by or for Clive Gibson, who had an original reel of it. All right if you want to look at a 1954 Chev and a similar vintage Dodge or Plymouth doing silly things with nails on the road in Parramatta Park.

I searched the NFSA archive to see if there was any footage relating to the Windsor RSL Speedway. I found 3 excerpts from newsreels, one dating from 1955 and the other two dating from the early 1960's. The footage totalled approximately 8 minutes in length. One of the excerpts had lost the accompanying commentary.

I had the 3 excerpts put onto a DVD, which cost me approximately $70. While that sounds expensive, the actual quality of the footage is very good. The 1955 footage is the earliest surviving footage of the Windsor RSL Speedway that I have come across during my research, and possibly the earliest stock car footage, as stock car racing was only introduced into Australia at the Sydney Showground in late 1954.

If you do decide to get the NFSA to copy material, you must contact the copyright holders of the material to get their permission for the NFSA to copy the material.
I did this with the Windsor RSL Speedway footage, but there are restrictions that come with the material. Copyright protection means that I can't download the footage to youtube, put it on a website, or show the footage at a public meeting.
