Hi everyone

today I went through my material and I found a picture of a podium ceremony at AVUS in 1959. The photo sais "Siegerehrung Tourenwagen", but there's a little problem - there were 5 (GT and) Touringcar races.

Two drivers can be seen - they are either David Buxton, Karl Foitek, Hans-Joachim Walter, Wolfgang Seidel, Frankie Ballard, Wolfgang Schmitz, Wolfgang Levy, Otto Linzenburg, Karl Kainz or Dr. Kläre. (1st and 2nd according to the official results)

Here're the results Posted Image

Now my question it, whether some of you can identify the two drivers?

Thank you very much!!!

That means that is also isn't Hans-Joachim Walter on the photo...

David Buxton, Karl Foitek, Frankie Ballard, Wolfgang Schmitz, Wolfgang Levy, Otto Linzenburg, Karl Kainz and Dr. Kläre left.

Are you certain that the photo is from the 1959 Grand Prix meeting?

I ask because photos that I have seen of the podium after the Grand Prix look very different. In the Fifties, the Avus track used to be the venue for lesser meetings as well as the 1954 - 1959 Grosser Preis von Berlin races.

The Germans can very well distinguish between touring and GT cars (I've never seen a reference "touring car" directing to GT's) so I'm pretty sure it is one of the serien-tourinwagen podiums. If the caption was right, of course...

David Buxton was a long time co-conspirator with ACBC and was at one time sales manager for Lotus and Moonraker Boats. He was also tied up with Team Elite and had a Lotus Dealership in Derby. Any body remember the Elite with a 2 litre Climax that was one of his schemes, and more importantly did any body see it race? I only ever saw it in the paddock.
