The Lakeside destruction of the Chris Brauer Mustang was a week after Warwick Farm's August meeting...

A very sad day.

Mick, he bought it from Bob Jane.

Ray was it not on lease from Jane?

Yes, when it went past me on a trailer after the clean up, it looked like a red Banana. Very bent.

There are claims that car is still around, must have been found 30 odd years latter at the Geelong tip.

Yeah, surely if its still around its a few bits off the original in a new shell, others on here will know more but we were talking to Chris at a Lakeview hillclimb and i think the accident ruined his racing career finance wise, others said he still owed Jane money on it so i guess that can be called a lease.

More likely a purchase financed by Jane...

He was actually pretty good like that, helping youngsters into some of his cars. But if it went wrong it went very wrong.

Just noticed this was my 22nd birthday, now that`s a good way to celebrate a birthday, standing on a fence post of what used to be the ARDC members and competitors camp ground.

That was the same day BillBrown drove the P4 Ferrari and Pete's 250LM sounded so...... GREAT.

Love the look no Graham Ryan face, driving due west into the first corner always a challenge late in the day.

He looked the same when driving his road car of a few years earlier, a 59 Plymouth Belvedere, on anything but a straight road.

Interesting pics. I love the chrome roll bar in the Allen Mustang, though Petes does not have one at all. The Herb taylor EH appears to have adressed the fragile Holden wheel centres with plate centres. Both of those EHs would be no nos now as the exhaust has to exit past the centre line of the car. Ryans understeer is probably because of the lock up. EH drums get all confused when hot!

The Skelton MG is ugly,, yet BMC own up too it!

The front apron on the LM250 appears to be scraping on the ground? And no cracks about Petes size for that one.

The LM250's attitude looks to me to be the result of heavy braking, with the nose just clear of the ground.  Possibly assisted by the size of Pete's right foot.

Yes, obviously hard under brakes. But that is the body panels scraping. Not a spoiler or brake scoops. Though that apron does seem to be drooped?

Oh to have heard those Ferraris at Mt Panorama - those long straights at Wide Open...

Hoping for some loud 12-bangers at the 12 Hour next year by way of compensation.

You can bet that the Ferrari was perfectly prepared for that event...

Scuderia Veloce rarely did anything different to that.

I posted this back in August 2010, but can't remember who it turned out to be.

It looks like a Lotus 15, but I'll stand corrected if necessary.

I like the guys who have kept their programmes !!

Thanks, so it's Ross McKenzie, in chassis no: 188. (from Mark Schagen's Lotus history book)

The car had a Rootes supercharger fitted to it in 1963, by Graham White, who owned it from 1961 - 1965.

McKenzie had sold the car to Mark Croudace before the end of the year.

Funny that Croudace's name should come up like that...

He was into Clubmans, you'd well remember Lynton, and had that remarkable crash on the start/finish line at Oran Park where his brand new car literally rotated horizontally on top of the rollover bar of Bob Martin's Seca.

I wonder if he ever raced the 11?

According to Mark Schagen, No,  & the car had gone to Geoff Davidson from NSW by 1970.

Croudace's ride over Bob Martin was in 1973, so the Furka came some time after 1970.

Ken's car, however, was a Rennmax...

You have to think of Britto's feelings here.

A thousand pardons, Mr Bell.....just trying to save ink. I'm sure Bob won't be concerned, though.

Simmo, I had a great natter with Kel that day, and what a nice bloke he was. When I asked him what RPM the Honda showed, he explained that he had no idea when racing. While laying on the tank, all he could see was a narrow section of the tacho, and when the needle disappeared to the right, he changed up. If the needle disappeared to the left, he changed down.

Kel told me the long, tapered ram inlet manifolds actually created a positive inlet pressure at maximum H.P. readings on the dyno.

Greg, all I remember is the noise, you could hear it all way around the track, every gear change. Sitting in the esses and hearing him down change for Creek was quite magic. It also gives you an idea of progress the 250 he rode produced all of 43 hp at 14000 rpm, doesn`t sound much by todays standards. Thanks to Elansprint for the nice words and Lynton who`s excellent photos first attracted me to this forum. Must also thank elrosso, Lindsay has been giving me some excellent advise about scanning and repairing old damaged slides and negs.

Wirra, you did well with an instamatic to get those. I think I did get some of Thommo`s mustang but haven`t scanned them so maybe the ravages of time have done for them.

PS where did you get the name Wirra from?

Thommo`s Mustang, found one.
