The photo of the TS was taken around 1957 on Bugatti corner, the shed in the background was removed in 57. I beleive the car got the GM engine around 54. In 1960 it was running SU carbs and a large scoop on the bonnet. Edwards leased the car in 1962 to run in the AGP.
Other answers. The Plymouth is being driven by Syd Negus.
The Alta in photo Syd Anderson. When Jack Ayres had the car the exaust was swept upwards and a long nose fitted, the car is know
owned by historic racer Julia D'Baldanza and is possibly in Italy.
The Aston photo was the 1960 6hr passing Gavin Sanford Morgans Lotus Elite.

Other Question the car i identified is the Hall Special. To my knowledge the Cass car dissapeared early 50s.

Pretty sure it's not either...

Norm would have been in a blue shirt like the young guy, who would seem to be a junior member of the crew.

Are the Festival.

I missed a bit of the Ken.

Running around to much doing chasing the RedBull side of things for Auto Action and getting Mark to sign two photos of his 1994 Formula Ford.

The Bug always looks great.

1954 still Dodge powered, followed by the Ballot and the Plymouth. The GMC was probably installed in 1955 to compete with the new BRM Morgan.

*Edit*... don't know what happened here, but it came up once I quoted it to say that I couldn't see it!

Also, Ken, you really could make it all a lot neater by leaving the [ or the [U at the start of your strings. When you copy from Imageshack, I suspect you must be doing it by putting your cursor in the box and running it along. You don't have to, you just left click and then right click, then you get the whole string.

So instead of getting this:

You get this:

Note that they are pushing on the small rear wing, one of the earliest seen on a racing car, certainly in this country.

Well spotted xj13v12 Frank was the first to use rear down force in OZ .

A note back from Peter McKay's uncle, Brian McKay, confirms it's not Sid. He tells us that it's Barry, Sid's son, driving.

One assumes Sid was busy enough driving the Cooper Bristol by this time...

Does anyone have any knowledge of the early (1962) Mini Cooper 997 that was owned by Digby Cook ? He raced the car in series production, it was later sold to Alan Vincent who on sold it to John Leffler . In his hands the car was upgraded with a 1275cc power plant and was raced competitively in series production as well as improved production in the 1960’s at venues such as Warwick Farm.
The car still exists, it was UK built in Almond Green/ Old English White roof and very similar to the car McLaren raced in '62. Anyone know of the car and it's history ?

Pete

Thanks Ellis for the info on the No 17 Elfin Mallala (Longford pits) shot I posted a little while back - it was the Bryan Thomson car from 1964. And the No 100 FJ in the background belonged to R N Kent, coincidentally the driver of the Cooper S in the '69 Symmons grid shot with Hallam and Pare's Mustang.
And Cooper S we do have a shot of the McLaren Cooper at Caversham (b/w though) on the oldracephotos.com website, which I'm hoping will be up and running again next week.
Cheers, ellrosso

Syd Negus only had one son Wayne who went onto drive for the Holden Dealer Team. The pic in question is the 1963 6hr the Plymouths
last race with Syd driving solo he changed to that helmet for the 1962 AGP. Syd retired in 1963, Wayne had the Plymouth road
registered and drove it while building his own car.

Ken, I was sure that Wayne told me he drove that car at some time, but I would have figured him to be too young to have driven it as early as that...

No other sons? I guess Brian's memory is playing tricks with him.

And please, Ken, can you do what I asked about those image codes?

It's dead easy -

When you get to this stage:

Posted Image

Don't try to highlight by wiping the cursor across the line. LEFT button click with the cursor ANYWHERE on the line, and the whole line will automatically highlight blue:

Posted Image

Then without moving the mouse RIGHT button click on the Blue Text Line and this little menu will pop up:

Posted Image

Then LEFT click on word COPY and bob's your auntie. Paste it into the post as per usual. (I delete out the Image Shack credit line to save space.)

The result is a neat left alignment.

Alternatively you can manually edit the post to put in the bits that have got lost, in this case the square bracket and the U that should be at the front of the photo identifier, like so:

Jack Ayres driving the Mini Cooper at Albany hillclimb 1963.

I see what you're doing now, Ken...

You're pasting in the string then typing into the middle of it. Type your words first, then put the string in afterwards.

The routine when you get to the Bulletin Board, if you do the picture first and caption later, is to space down a few spaces, and paste the picture code there. You can see the cursor down a few lines in this pic:

Posted Image

Now you paste, and the picture code is well down:

Posted Image

Then click the cursor in the top left hand corner of the pane:

Posted Image

Now you can type your story.

And by the way, that's a great photo showing more of some of the cars we've just been discussing:

On pole, I guess, is the Wally Higgs Peugeot-engined racer, with Senator Syd next to him in the Cooper Bristol and sporting that new helmet, then Lionel Beattie? I missed the boat with the red car on the next row, however, but we can pick out the Bondley Vanguard, the Byfield MG and Ray Barfield in the Aston.

Pete,

This car was on display at the Muscle Cars Masters race meeting at Eastern Creek, September last year. Owner told me it was 998 Cooper originally. But it's a 997 by the chassis number details and although I don't have a direct link to Gaydon records is quite probably one of the rare batch of BMC Australia fully imported 997s brought in before the local production hit its straps.

He had owned it about 30 years ago when it was BRG and used it for hillclimbing. Sold it, then was surfing the net (after a stint in hospital) and found the car in 2009 - restored and for sale on a specialist website. Had to have it again. Had it liveried up in Leffler's race scheme for MCM at the Creek. Was based north of Sydney. Very nicely done. He was aware of the links to Digby Cooke, but upon contact, Digby couldn't recall it.

GREAT shot of the Maybach, by the way.

A very historic photo, too: my guess is Mount Druitt Jan 1954 after returning from the Maybach's victory in the first NZ GP, the Mt Druitt circuit a real mess just one week after the highly destructive 24 Hour race there. My guess re location is the exit to Dam Corner

OF COURSE it had to be a great photo, if taken by Byron Gunther -- an artist of the lens.
