a bit cruel but,

this would ensure an open championship till the end, and would encourage winning,
going fast and of course making pp, it would be useless just cruising and it would also be easy to catch the leaders of championship.

I could buy a point for pole. Maybe that would make the current race fuel qual work as they originally had hoped. But point for fastest lap is silly. Unless... it could maybe work if that point could only be "won" if you also finish in the points. Otherwise we would get hopeless scenarios when the people outside the points dive into the pits for new, soft, tyres the second to last lap do a last kamikaze lap to get the point. It could be fun, but it would be arcade-game fun.

That system would be ideal if the drivers had to swap around and drive different cars every weekend. The WDC would be more relevant with such a system.

You are correct that it's all been fine for the last 18 years though!

So there has only ever been 1 WDC where the driver with the MOST wins hasn't been champion? This thread is a waste of space then!

Here's a good thread in pf1 forums where alternative point systems are considered and then stats crunched to see what would have happened last year. in fact if moto gp points system were used, Lewis would have been the WDC.

Personally I don´t mind how the points are structured, as long as the percentage of points given to the second place man is only 60% of the winners total, and the 3rd place man´s is 40%. With onl a 20% reduction, ie 10-8-6 system, a driver/rider can win 16 of 20 races and still find himself behind in the championship. Hardly a fair reflection, I think you will agree.

I was thinking that perhaps a driver should at least get something for beating his team mate. cos for example bourdais could outrace vettel for all the races (without both scoring points) except one were vettel somehow manages to get a point. under current classification, vettel would be higher in the wdc table than bourdais which i am sure many would feel is a bit unfair.

since when did it need to be fair?
and frankly it wouldn't be anyway. if vettel gets further through the field than bourdais ever managed then the kudos should go to him. that's why people like the champion to have most wins and think it a bit unfair when the loser does.

well imagine bourdais getting the 9th place consistently for all the races with vettel languishing in 15th. And there is one race where vettel comes 8th with bourdais ninth. you get my point. but under though what I'm saying turns out to be equivalent to just extending the points system to all drivers. so scrap that.

I have suggestion every points are randomized at end of race and counted in pre given bingo board and guy who gets 5 hits in row (vertically, horizontally or, slash) will win something. After season FIA lets brits to vote Lewis Hamilton to become WDC of the year. :drunk:

I think points should be awarded by a jury in a system similar to that of Figure Skating.

The scoring components should be:

- driving skills
- technics
- performance
- attitude
- sitting posture

Anyone up for a reverse points system....

Let`s say there are twenty cars, then the winner gets 1 point, and the last classified driver gets 20 points... To circumvent any false or tactically contrived DNFs, any driver who does not finish, automatically classifies as lower than a driver who finishes on track whether the non finishing driver is ten laps ahead of the next driver on track or on the same lap...
This would encourage racing for position as the driver with least points will win...
Should race fuel qualifying be dropped, qualifying positions could also be included in the points system. for example... Driver A qualifies first and finishes fifth goes home with six points, driver B qualifies second and wins goes home with three points, driver C qualifies third and is first to go out of the grand prix goes home with twenty three points. A driver who leads the GP up until the last lap and does not finish on track goes down to the next best non finishing place....

The championship(s) would be decided on the driver and constructor with the least number of points which surely would be most rewarding to winning, competitiveness and also reliability...

Any takers?
