Hi Historic Motorsport fans,

'Racing Team Holland, The History OF The Dutch Racing Team' written by Rob Wiedenhoff and edited by Ed Heuvink covers the famous history of Racing Team Holland founded in 1963 by Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema and Ben van Marken. The first race the team entered was the Grand Prix de Spa on May 17th, 1964. Ben Pon drove the orange – the official Dutch racing colour – Porsche 904 Carrera GTS.

This luxurious clothbound edition with dust cover, written in English, extensively covers the history with its many ups- and downs. Starting with the Porsche period (1964-1967), Formula 3 racing with the innovative Tecno DAF with Variomatic transmission (1968), the European Formula 3 title for Jan Lammers (1978) and the many achievements in Formula Ford (early eighties).

I hope you've been informed to your entire satisfaction.

Leusden, at the Pon premises. But I'm not entirely sure in which building. I'll be going with Michel van den Boogaard, who designed the book. He's a colleague of mine.

Other Dutchies: does anyone remember the name of the crazy Canadian who bought half of Zandvoort, and who also wanted to create a Racing for Holland F1 team? And who turned out to have not a dollar in his pocket?

Well he said he wanted to buy or at least organize a lot in Zandvoort. Didnt he 'only' buy the Bouwes Hotel with the 'Dolfirama' dolfin show on the first floor? He wanted to turn Zandvoort into some sort of Las Vegas/Disneyland with racing as one of its many attractions. Johan Beerepoot, then Circuit Zandvoort's president gave Hordo a chance as the track was in so so financial situations. Only to miss Hordo one day with many unpaid bills.

Thanx! His name was just on the tip of my lips. About buying 'whole Zandvoort' - buying the Bouwes Hotel and Dolfirama (without money!) back hen was almost buying whole of Zandvoort. Dutch biggest beachcity was really in trouble those years. I remember that my father bought a big appartment in the biggest and most luxurous living tower in Zandvoort, for a ridicilous price. The city council and the property owners were desperate back then for ANYBODY who bought something in their town. Still don't understand how that period came about.

This looks a great book, I ofen used to see RTH cars ar Brands and they invoke great memories. I have SRT Lach '69 in my mind also (Fiat Abart 2000) was this anything to do with RTH?

Judging from the few colour pictures I have seen , it looks to me that RTNL Porsche 904's was more orange than the teams transporters ??( Take a look at post1 and compare with the last post) Is it delusion , if so what is the "right" colour ?

Trying again for the colours of RTNL. If you look at post 12 , this picture has been shown elsewhere too (Transporters) and the colour look rather pale red . I guess the real colour was dayglo orange ?

Hi Bjorn,

No, not dayglo. Most RTH cars were orange, but rather dark orange leaning to red. Try color pictures of Gijs van Lennep's helmet for instance. I believe we may call it Royal Orange. Forget about orange as in the football shirts of the dutch national team or TNF's orange: far to pale.

The first time I saw Racing Team Holland was in October 1968 at Oulton Park with the distinctive and highly unusual Tecno Daf-Fords driven by Mike Beckwith & Gijs Van Lennep.
(Shortly after this I saw Van Lennep somewhat incognito at Aintree on a Tuesday night practice with Derek Bennett trying out a Chevron.......)
