I recently bought the wonderful book "Sports Car Racing in camera 1960-1969" by Paul Parker, and was very interested by a color picture of the start of the 1962 Nurburgring 1962, during which Jim Clark was well before everyone on his new Lotus 23 until exhaust fumes caused him to make a mistake and crash.

On the photo, you can see the side on Jimmy's Lotus, and it appears that there is a red triangular sticker behind the front wheel arch. I checked on other photos I have from this car, unfortunately all in black and white, and I can see this sticker too on these photos. Unfortunately, none are close enough to actually identify what this sticker is about.

I attached the enhanced color photo from the book, sorry if it's a bit blurred, but its magnified to better see it.

Anybody has an idea on what is this sticker and how it looks like ?

It could be a logo from the Essex Racing Team, as this car was a private entry although heavily endorsed by Colin Chapman. But I don't have an idea of how it looks like.

Said photo also appears in Chris Nixon's "Kings Of The Nürburgring", page 241. It is from the LAT archives so perhaps a better quality version is available there.

A photo of Jimmy Clark on page 70 of "ADAC 1000 KM Rennen" by Födisch/Behrndt suggests that sticker was a late addition to the car.
