Charles is a belgia driver who worked for the Pipe company before the war, he drove a car at Ormond Beach in 1905 and finished second at the 10 miles race (a three heats event) four starters for the first heat.

Now who knows more about this driver ?

je ne sais de plus
(sorry)

Presumably this is the C Deplus who was third in his heat of the 1907 Kaiserpreis, but retired in the final and again in the Circuit de Ardennes, on both occasion at the wheel of Pipe cars

No additions concerning Deplus - just a photo showing Deplus at the wheel of his Pipe, 1907 Kaiserpreis, Taunus:

Reading Claude Yvens' book on Lucien Hautvast, I (well, he) can add a little more about Deplus. He was 3rd on the last lap of the 1907 Kaiserpreis when his steering knuckle (?) broke. However, in testing, he had had a crash (the Pipes were not allowed to use their anti-skid tyres for the touring-only race) which killed his passenger Otto Pfaender, who was Pipe's technical director. Deplus' major victory was at the 1905 Semmenring race in Vienna.

Hi Ensign14, I'm the author of that book and I'm happy that it found its way to you...
It's nice to see people showing interest for a book that asked more than two years of research about long-forgotten heroes.

Hi, M Yvens, I'm happy you took the trouble to write and research it. Everyone has their story, I wish they could all be told. The story of Hautvast might have fallen into the cracks of history, as the sources gradually wear away, but your book will keep his memory alive. :)

Hi Ensign14, I'm the author of that book...

Hi, as a regular contributor to this forum on early motoring matters and with a particular interest in these early international races, I looked for your book but cannot find it on any of the usual web search engines, and wondered if you could let us know where it can be found. I for one would be interested to buy a copy, and maybe others here would too...

It still seems to be available from the publisher for 29 euros:

I'm not quite sure the publisher kept large stocks, so if you still can't find a copy, send me an Mp and I can sell you a copy.
