Cryptic quiz - drivers

A word game for the festive break. All the answers are surnames of famous F1 drivers and there is something that links all of them (to make it a bit easier). I've tried to stick to straightforward words for non-native English speakers, though Chambers Online Dictionary may be useful, particularly as it includes abbreviations/acronyms (not that I've used many). Enjoy / Ignore / Call me a sad ****er as appropriate.

How do you want to do this cos I know a few but don't really want to post them maybe if everyone pm's you the answers?

Well done LB, as I'd forgotten to put in the number of letters for each answer! :eek:

Hmm...interesting point about the answers. It might be best to post them here in order that non-crosswordy people can get the idea... on the other hand you can keep the answers private if you prefer and simply PM me.

In either case, people can PM me with selected answers to receive a Y/N confirmation.
