Has anybody good portrait photos of the Italian driver/dealer Franco Cornacchia and driver Gerino Gerini, also from Italy? Both raced Maserati (yes, yes, yeeeeees ...they also raced Ferrari etc. - but those doesn`t interest me!).

Ciao!
Walter

Just came across this:

http://www.modelfoxb...Photostory1.htm

If you go down to "Lascia o Raddoppia 1958", there is a photo of Hawthorn, Phil Hill, Gerini, and Bonnier apparently being interviewed prior to the "500 Miglia di Monza". Interesting...Hawthorn and Hill took part but I don't think Gerini and Bonnier did. What were they doing there? All would have taken part, I think, in the French GP the following weekend.

Gerino Gerini died earlier this year - http://www.oldracing...r/Gerino_Gerini

PS This was in the archive, but I posted in the thread to see what happened and it's appeared in the main TNF fora. I didn't think that was actually possible so clearly you can still add comments onto archived stuff.

Try the Revs Institute http://www.revsinsti...ex.php?f=photos which has Karl Ludvigsen's former archive which I used to run that includes colour from Monaco 1958 taken by Karl.

I am not absolutely sure, it's 13 years ago now, but there might be a colour shot of Gerini in a Centro Sud 250F (no.48) at Monaco, certainly worth a try. The archive manager is Mark Patrick who is very helpful.

Apparently Mark Patrick is no longer in situ but the archive remains accessible.

Paul, what a useful archive link. Is it possible that I could ask you to pm Mike Bennett, see Lotus 12 photographs wanted thread a few threads below this, to guide him through the George Phillips archives. Some of the events listed there in 1956,57& 58 may well have unseen shots of the Lotus 12s in which Mike specialises?
Many thanks

I suspect the "right period" George Phillips archive might be held by someone else - LAT?

That is what I would have thought, with George an Autosport staffer, so I was surprised to see the number of events and photos listed on the Phillips schedule on the Revs site. When I spoke to LAT recently about Frankie Penn shots they said they only had copies of what Autosport had used in period. When I spoke to Peter Burn last week about his AS shots he said they had all of his archives from his period as an AS snapper. Different period , I grant, so perhaps different terms. Mike will know the events in which he might have an interest, so it is all about long shots, no pun intended, I suspect.

I suppose they represented the two big Italian race car-builders. Hawthorn and Hill were Ferrari drivers while Gerini and Bonnier drove Maseratis (although Hill had yet to make his F1 debut, that was to be in one of Bonnier's Maseratis :drunk: ).

Hello Roger.

I do not know the whereabouts of the George Phillips archive, but then I am not often in the UK.

The last I heard was that it was owned by Gregor Grant's son, but I will see if I can find out.

Paul

FYI this was when Mark was working at the Revs Institute but he is no longer there (see my post no.5).
