As I did Allan, Mini Cooper and Escort G.T., but Imps and Vee Dubs were usually the best production cars to use.

I think I started on Fox Hills on the army land near Aldershot in a borrowed Volvo 122, then a borrowed Mini Cooper, both shared with the owner. As I had a Daimler SP250 I also used that a bit later, it being surprisingly good unless ground clearance mattered - not much power at low speeds, but enough and delivered smoothly and controllably so it could wind its way up gravel tracks very well. Liquid mud, on the other hand!
Another works drive could have been in a Simca Mille on the same event as the Volvo but we thought four of us driving both cars was too much. The Simca did rather well, as you would expect but so did the Volvo. As you say, the Imp, when it appeared, was pretty competitive.

Aldershot, this used to be the place where the army and other competitors did point to point ( or whatever it was called) and we saw the great little Haflingers doing impossible feats...........A works drive too Allan! We often double entered, but four drivers a bit of a task I' would agree ! Never ceased to amaze me how some powerful cars could somteimes spin their wheels into grip and fly up hills....a great sport and real grass roots stuff too.

Sad to hear Alan (?) Spence and his co-driver John Dando were injured on this years Exeter Trial, the Parsons looks familiar from Bristol Pegasus meetings, wishing both Alan & John a speedy recovery.

Alan got away with cuts and bruises, but poor John suffered a broken jaw, dislocated shoulder and damaged ribs. Here's wishing him a rapid return to full fitness.

It's Bob Gerard at the Filton Sprint run on Filton airfield in October 1945 by the Bristol Aeroplane Company Motor Sports Club. All the photos in that lot were taken at that event.

The initiative taken by the local motor clubs to encourage younger drivers into motor sport is beginning to pay off. The Production Car Trial organised by the West Suffolk Motor Club at Wattisfield last month had several entrants that only a year ago had no idea that a £50 banger could provide so much fun, as this video shows…..

Last year I had some beginners luck won the Bristol Pegasus Motor Club Cross Trophy in my landladies 20 year old Passat, this year Paul Johnston easily beat every one in his 25 year old Golf II, you can read all about it here.

A trial I attended showing that the older cars are really the best, this was a National B.T.R.D.A round.
