looks like it already has a kart track and this video shows several small tracks inside it. Looks like rallying too:

There must be some Freudian explanation for Tilke's obsession with long straights...

The long straights are fine. What bothers me are the 90° corners and hairpins.

It's not the straights per se, it's just that he seems to put them in first and design the track around them that bothers me slightly. Except in Turkey, of course! I don't know what happened there. :D

the constant radius or linearly increasing radius corners. I hate them. These are rare on natural circuits like Monaco and Spa.

"Natural" features are what makes racing great. That curved straight at the old Hockenheim. Great stuff.

So is this with a view to holding the spanish/european grand prix?

You need a blind apex at least in one corner to have an exciting track. Add some natural elevations too...

The longer the straight the better IMO. A very very long straight puts a premium on high speed and therefore low downforce. If wing flex did not exist, very long straights would result in more overtaking because the cars would run less downforce around the corners, and of course there would be the obvious opportunity to overtake on or at the end of the straight.

Not really, they pretend this venue to be a regular test track for F1 teams.

That´s also the reason the 2kms long straight exists, teams don´t really have a proper circuit to fully test aerodinamics.

There is also a 180º turn similar to Loews and a lot of ups and downs.

Just go to Circuitos-Velocidad-Diseño and u´ll see the complete design.

If the straight was 1.7km in length would this exceed the limit for F.I.A sanctioned events?
