The personal photos threads have quite rightly been split recently.

We now have a British club racing thread. I've seen a bit of local racing in Canada and in various parts of Europe. At times it can be very different to how we see it in the UK.

It would be good to see how other countries do it, so I am starting off with a very damp SCCA meeting at Mosport Park in 1988. Sorry about the quality of the pics. The negs weren't fixed properly

A Ralt and some slightly different Formula Fords.

Alansart:

In photo #4 what kind of chassis is this #39? Pretty cool looking car.

Unfortunately I don't know as I didn't keep the programme. I do remember being surprised how far forward the driver sat compared to a UK Formula Ford.

Edit: Tsunami rings a bell

The 2nd photo is possibly a Citation or a Zink.

Thanks for this, Alan.

I now have a home for some of my pictures of SCCA club racing if I ever get round to scanning them.

Nelson Ledges anyone? Or Summit Point?

Lin:

I'd love to see Nelson Ledges and Summit Point. Summit Point was my home track in '70s. I even raced against Bruce McInnis and Bret Hawthorne. I saw both of them twice at the start of the race and at the end of the race. They were already in their street clothes AND they hadn't dropped out early!

It's been a few years since I've looked at the club slides.

I'll have to bring them out into the light of day and check to see what I have.

Hubby and I were part of the "pit crew" for our friend Alistair Oag who raced a Saab Sonnet and later a VW Rabbit in the Bilstein Cup races. (He now owns Interprep Performance Tuning.) It may take awhile but I'll hopefully have something worth posting. :)

The Ralt is Frank Shober's very well used 1981 model.

Vashlin, I can't wait to see your SCCA pics and if you have entry lists/results for FB/Formula SCCA races at Nelson Ledges and Summit Pt please send me an email - they could be very useful for the SCCA project on oldracingcars.com. First lot of results being posted soon.

I doubt that it was an SCCA event as Mosport is in Canada. SCCA is the US club

The SCCA has sometimes run regionals and nationals at Mosport. Don't know how long they've been doing it, though, or if they do it every year.

I've recently gotten around to some of my club racing pictures. Was sorry to see this thread drop off so thought I'd make an attempt to revive it with some photos of an SCCA club meeting at Nelson Ledges, Ohio, May, 1980.

The yellow Saab Sonett was driven by our friend Alistair Oag. We were there as part of his crew that weekend.

Heh.. I am probably either standing somewhere in that crowd behind the armco in the pits, or back on the fence between the crossover road and false grid (out of camera view) and all of 10 years old.. I can't remember if my uncle had moved to the Spitfire from the Mini by then or not.

Two years earlier, smallbore Production and Sedan from the bridge. at NL

They still do - in conjunction with one of the local Canadian clubs such as the BARC.

The Canadian Honda Aerodeck Series seemed well supported in the mid 80's.

They were also all MAD!!!

ggnagy,

I wondered if there were any TNFrs on the track or in the crowd in my pictures from Nelson.

BTW, I realize that I've gotten the date wrong. It wasn't May but July or August. The leafy trees should have given me a clue! I also have pictures from a test session at Nelson in May of 1980 and I got the dates mixed up.

The Datsun on the front row driven by Terry Knight; a strange and ultimately tragic story about that man; too much money, limited talent and the wrong sort of 'friends'.
