Yeah well, guys like Rossi appear in Motor Sport once every twenty years or so. Ever since I've started watching racing, 2 or 4 wheels, I haven't seen a character like him, but I don't also think he's become bigger than Moto GP itself.
There's nothing better to promote interest in a sport than a rivalry which will get under people's skin and drag everyone into a love/hate position. So, even if Rossi retires as the undisputed greatest ever with 10 titles and 100+ wins, the rivalries brewing in Moto GP should be enough to keep it alive in his absence. Pedrosa and Stoner would not be so friendly to each other if Rossi wasn't around to steal the spotlight. Pedrosa and Lorenzo will never, ever, put their rivalry aside, it seems. Imagine how much love/hate they'll create if they keep breathing on each others necks for the following years.
edit: and there will still be the tale of the small italian factory taking it up against the japanese giants.
Yep..MotoGP is safe, mostly because of the presence of actual racing! Pedrosa/Lorenzo will be fun to watch, but I quite like that Dovizioso (I think that's the spelling), I think he'll be my next favourite.
