I think that's what they mean by saying "the fealing is the same as in october 2007", they are in the same position as in Brazil, where they had no quali problem anymore

Yup, then on tuesday Felipe resumes testing.

Then thats excellent news for Ferrari fans like me. But still i want to see some good close racing instead of dominance. (but with Ferrari and its drivers winning the titles) :) ;)

Not a bad time from Massa. Rodlamas i think Kimi is generally faster than Massa so i would expect a better time from him, but i dont think it would be much better. It would be nice to see Schumacher test with Kimi, although Schumi most probably will most probably focus on reliability or other 'boring' technical stuff

Rodlamas was saying how Bahrain test was not impressive as they did not beat 2007 test time set by Massa which was 1:29:978 or something very close. Well here they did which goes to say they are performing better on aero circuits than places like Bahrain.

$304,600,000 McLaren
$290,400,000 Toyota
$225,100,000 BAR
$206,800,000 Renault
$119,500,000 Sauber
$ 79,200,000 Jordan
$ 78,800,000 Jaguar
$ 39,600,000 Minardi

and in 1999
Ferrari's budget was at $225 million; McLaren $125 million, Jaguar/Stewart and Williams $105 million, Benetton $80 million, Prost and Sauber $60 million each, Jordan $55 million, Minardi $50 million and Arrows just $35 million. Benetton's figure was hardest to calculate as they were still a full owned subsidiary of the Benetton group of companies at that time.

I wouldnt of thought Ferrari would have lowered there budget by so much, or honda raised it by so much... I think it goes to show how hard the budget cap would be...

Including Kimi's salary [$75 million per season i.e. several millions dollars per race?], Ferrari has to be the richest/best backed. ;)

The truth is - the Renault was always going to be a good car this year as the major problems they had last year (tyres and wind tunnel error) have been rectified and they were able to focus on the car much earlier than Ferrari and Mclaren.

Perhaps we'll know more next week - but for now I share Kar's view.

Guys keep this thread on track.

Gerry! You need to stop PUMPING the weights, it's causing a lack of oxygen to your brain!! Tell me how Renault can go from what they were in 05/06 to the joke they were last year, and now Alonso is back everyone thinks that they'll be as they were???

F1 don't work like that!! Briatore was raving about how they've been working on this car from mid season on last year bla bla bla...

They'll be behind BMW...

That's what Ferrari team stated since the F2008 launch onwards. That their problems from last year are solved.

It's just a few posters who denied it constantly.

I just think Massa is a better qualifier than Raikkonen.

The race is another story.

Its comments like that that keep it alive. You actually believe he 'brought 0.6 to McLaren' in a box, don't you?

Rodlamas is right Kimi is a better driver in the race, whereas quali, Massa usually fuel adjuested in better, 2/3 of the time.

It's worth pointing out that Massa has yet to set a time quicker than anything Raikkonen has managed at any of the tracks in pre-season testing (Bearing in mind Kimi has yet to post a time @ Barca). Which tells me that IF Raikkonen was to adopt Massa's fuel-load short-termism in qualifying sessions, he too could get pole positions at the expense of decent race pace.

Well the change in qualy format might shake things up a little. Last season Kimi tended to favour going heavier for the first stint of the race compared to Massa which must have had some impact on his qualy positions, but that could possibly change with the rule changes to the qualifying sessions.

Now the teams cant refuel after the start of Q3 to the beginning of race, so the opening stint prior to the pits will be shorter. So it remains to be seen what way Kimi and Chris Dyer will go with it.

@ Brian O Flaherty - great minds and all that ;)

Where did you get that "2/3 of the time"? Last year quals ended up 9-8 with Massa winning 9 times and Kimi 8 times. I think it was usually Kimi who was heavier not Massa, so where does that 2/3 of the time come? BTW in first half Kimi had - as he himself said - problems with getting right temperature for one hot lap, he did improve in that area when he learned the tyres and all other new things, for 8 first races the results from qual was 2-6 in Massas favour and then in last 9 races it was 6-3 in Kimis favour so I wouldnt place any huge bet on Massa being better this year in quals if I were you.

That is one sec nearly faster than Massa last year in race, Haug was saying how it is questionable whether a low 1:21 can beat Ferrari well now I think he knows.

Whatever, but the point is that Massa had it easy in first half of season but then the momentum started to shift on Kimis side of garage, I dont see any reason why it would shift back to Felipe now that he hasnĀ“t got the advantage of being a senior against newcomer (for both team and tyres) anymore. Well, you never know, but like I said, dont bet your house on it.
