What makes you so sure that he is the right one, Jim?
His obituary said nothing about motorsport activities.

Mr. Ausmus was an engineer with Westinghouse Corp. in Sunnyvale for 45 years. He enjoyed photography and hiking, say family members.

There are quite a few obituaries that don't mention motorsport activities at all, ReWind. In this case, it is from the area Reggie Ausmus resided. Plus, his daughter mentioned his date of passing, which led to that obituary. I would think that supports it pretty well.
