Personally I think Max may still be the best of a bad bunch to head the FIA. But, clearly, few are entirely satisfied with him...especially when the FIA make a ruling against "their" team.

So, just a quick poll to see, who would you like to see in charge.

(apols if this has been polled previously, but it's good to keep up to date...)

Voted 'other'.

Considering FIA has many jobs besides motorsport there is no God given reason that the person in charge should have a racing back ground. It further eliminates the obvious problems of vested interests that a Dennis or a Todt would bring.

I would therefore think an auto-executive would be as good a choice as any. I immediately thought of Vendelin Wiedeking, since he knows the auto industry, knows something about the sport and has more money than God, meaning he can't be bought or sold. Furthermore he must be closing in on a termination of his Porsche contract. And he has a proven track record in management and financial prudence.

I would also think he would like to 'escape' the sahdow of Piech.


(I know the above makes sense to me and not to many others including Vendelin, but one can dream)

Well, I think that current system of presidential elections in FIA gives a great preference to a person who is already inside the structure and know all the people.

Flav will take Bernie's job. The best man IMO is Ron Dennis, however I suspect Jean Toad will end up with the job.

Seriously, Flav's skillset is not suited for the FIA job. Flav is a hustler just like Bernie, he would make a terrible president. If you think some of Max's ideas are preposterous I can only imagine what Flav's would be like.

Although there would probably be a mandated quality of gridgirl based on Flav's criteria.

OK - interesting results so far...evenly split between the like of RD and JT. Apart from "other" keeping Max seems to be a popular option!

Next time I will be sure to add Flav, Pat "The Ghost" Symonds(sp?), and perhaps, yes, even Jeremy Clarkson, and some others mentioned too ((ex?)Porsche boss etc,)

Also, I liked the idea of FW...I think most people see him as more fair-minded than either RD or JT...perhaps it is just due to less recent success, but he does seem universally respected.

Perhaps I'm surprised the only "available" relatively serious contendor that has received no votes is Ove Anderson...I entered him as a kind of universal "from motorsport but not currently active in motorsport" candidate, who nobody seems to have a gripe with. Maybe he is considered too lightweight?

Todt is certainly capable enough but it makes sense why a lot of people wouldn't want him.

I cant imagine how RD can be president after the spygate. (yes maybe it wasnt his fault etc, but it was a big hit)

Having said that, Jeremy Clarkson would certainly kill the sport but he would probably have the most interesting ideas

errrh, I, for one, will never vote for the guy on whose shift Toyota was disqualified and banned for blatantly cheating in rallying and furthermore criminal proceedings were taken against two of his employees while he was in charge of their F1 programme. Anyone 'condemming' Ron Dennis should be doing the same to Ove Andersson twice over.

that´s the thing one who's trying to apply to the job should not do.

fia director should not understand anything but himself. and for sure would be careful enough to not listen what fans want.

Granted. I rescind my comments regarding Ove.

I'm honestly not intimate with the details of the rallying cheating as I do not partilarly folow the sport (and accept the the FIA covers more than F1...). Was this the illegal airbox thing (which is the only reallying cheating I am slightly aware of, although I have no idea which team that referred to) or something else?

Here in Italy we have the right man. He was at the same time President of FIAT, President of FERRARI, President of Press Association, President of Industry Association, President of the Bologna Fair, and some people wish he candidate in the next April political election.
He has all a man need to be the right FIA President.

Jean Todt did a great job in every position he ever held.

He changed the mess Ferrari into a winning machine. He would change the Punch and Judy Show FIA into an organisation working like a clockwork.
And unlike Max Mosley, he's not interested into being in the headlines twice a week. This might be a good basis for a sensible and stable rulebook.
