VSCC Mallory Park Sunday 21st July
Without doubt the best dice of the day was the race-long battle for Vintage honours between Robert Carr (AC/GN Special) and Justin Maeers (Parker GN) - edge of the seat stuff with Carr winning by a nose

Agreed, it was a pleasure to watch.

Here is Carr in a later race; he seems to have got the hang of driving this contraption!

Marty Loft tries on Mark Jaremko's March 75B. Loft won the 1976 Players Atlantic race at Westwood in a Shierson March 76B. Jaremko said the 75B is chassis number 4...but there might another number 4.

One of the disbenefits(?) of a Bugatti pointed tail-section is that the yellow square with a black X is not visible from certain angles.

Were I to be a Gentleman of Unlimited Means, determined to race Vintage cars; I might consider doing my first ten, or so, races in something rather more "learner-friendly" than a Bugatti eff-wun car.

Mallory must be one of the best tracks in the UK for us snappers (no matter which side of the wire-fence we stand upon); I do hope that the current difficulties can be overcome.

I don't do photos - I'd rather watch - but a splendid weekend of racing at Croft Nostalgia meeting; everything from frenetic FF1600 dices to thundering Mustangs and screaming Formula Juniors , via 500s and 1 litre F3. Add in a display by a Provost and a Yak, Classic cars by the score and er... tanks ... and it was a great recipe. I mention it here because sometimes it feels as though the only historic meeting which exists is Goodwood, and I get a little tired of the constant hype by the press about it and nothing else. Croft is obviously much smaller scale but deserves our support- stick it in your diary next year ?

In its own way the standout weekend of the year so far. Very different to the Silverstone Classic and as such difficult to compare but for a weekend of historic motorsport, classic buses, tanks etc, classic cars, aeroplanes and generally very nice, knowledgable spectators (and a lot of them) it was absolutely brilliant fun. Highly recommended!

I was at the Silverstone Classic too and it was as wonderful as ever but I am delighted you enjoyed Croft . Tell some more of your racer mates to come up next year? A few - OK a whole grid full - of F5000s would be just the ticket. And maybe a Ford Galaxie or six ?

Not a festival as such, but here are a couple I took at Goodwood a couple of weekends ago:

I didn't ask what this was - not quite the done thing to go up to a chap and say "I know it's a fake, but what sort of fake, exactly? - but perhaps it's one of those made by a firm that has a stand at the Revival each year (Jaguar-engined? the car, not the stand)

getting a lot of attention, although I don't think it flew that day; a Spit has certainly been flying around and over the Horndean area recently, presumably this one.
