More great shots, autodelta, especially the two-car Derek Bell photos. Isn't it interesting that virtually all of these cars look better presented than they did while racing in period?

Thank you.Yes you are so right on that point.I am sure that some people would say that they look over prepared and presented but it's just good to see them in action.

A tip of the hat, Autodelta, these are great photos! Can you tell us the particulars, i.e., camera, film. exposure, lens, etc.?

Thanks. All these shots were taken with a Canon EOS 400D digital slr.Action shot lens is a Tamron 70-200mm and paddock shots are mainly taken with the standard 50mm Canon lens. Most shots depicting the cars on the move are taken on a quite slow shutter speed 1/160s-1/200s.I can't say I miss the film days too much now although I love looking at the uploads of people's period photgraphs.

All shots taken at Road America this past summer, and processed to give them that old Kodacolor look.

The Elan is not an easy car to photograph, imho. One plans where it will be and when but, inevitably, when the shutter is released it has just gone. ;)

Does anyone recall if anyone other than Gerald Ashmore raced a Plus 2 in period?

Love these! You sell the Tamron really well. They should pay you commission  Great PP as well. What software do you use?

Thank you. Most of the pictures on here have had pp on either Picasa or Sony picture browser.I have Photoshop and Canon Digital pro too but tend not to use them too much.Just depends which I feel like using. Most of these are done in about a minute. No hours spent on tone curves and layers!

Auto58, I'm astounded by the clarity in many of the shots you have posted here but (and I realise this is a Motor Racing forum, rather than a photo-forum), you have missed the sweet-spot by about 2mtrs (6ft) on many of your shots. If you could release the shutter just like you did in the last shot posted every time, you could name your price to Mr Picture Ed.
It is apparent that you have a very steady hand when following a car in the pan shots (I'm seriously jealous here), you just need to catch the car before it starts to depart the frame.
Look forward to seeing more of your work. :D

Send me a PM if you want to discuss.

While searching for some photos of Fabrizio Violati, I scanned a few more from the Targa Florio retrospective of 1988, which might well fit in here.

Two of the Camidoglio Motori Ferrari 250 SWBs in the paddock - There were no fewer than eight SWBs prepared to take their chances on the horrendously rough and pot hole-ridden Piccolo Madonie circuit.

Most snapper hags say you should let the shot come to you. If you chase it, you often lose it. Mind you the rapid PP that you say you use would annoy a lot of people who spend ages tweaking their shots. Your workflow delivers every time; even if the odd shot misses the sweet spot.

I don't have the answer, unfortunately, I do it too, it's just that my shots have other faults as well.
I've managed to convince myself that I did things better with a fully mechanical film camera (Pentax MX) but I'm looking forward to this coming season with a Nikon D700 which, as far as I can tell, has no shutter-lag. Keep posting your fabulous shots.
