I wonder if she ended up with a tyre print up her back that made it look like she had been run over...

Unfortunately the world has become a much safer place which some might think is a good thing. There was recently a series of comments on Facebook about photographers on the inside of corners at Silverstone in the 50s and 60s. One would think that these chaps were suicidal just going off the comments of the younger contributors!

Even way back in 1991, Simon Hadfield had already mastered the handling of the Lotus Cortina. Seen here harrying Hubert Hahne in the BMW at the second Christie's Festival. Great entertainment.

One of my grainy old slides of John Surtees at a Brands Hatch historic meeting.

I would guess it was in the 1980s but I have no clear memory of the date, the Pace Petroleum sticker on the side of the car suggests they sponsored the meeting.

Excellent pictures, Phil - as always

The last one is also very interesting. The Pallister (wonderful in itself, although an unusual colour - please don't berate me because I only think of Damien Magee, in white) seems to be showing Roger Keele and Tony Keele.

Am I correct in assuming father and son?

Please excuse edit - I have a Dell Latitude and the keyboard doeset wrok vrey wlle...

Oh, goodness me - I had no idea. Thanks for the link, Phil.

I sincerely hope that Roger knows that people like us care and still think of him (and his erstwhile competitors) and that it actually really means something that he and they raced and beat the likes of James Hunt, Roger Williamson, Tom Pryce, Tony Brise and others some weekends. I pray that he has those memories.

EDIT: to include Barry's spelling correction - a possible explanation could be something to do with a certain centre back who played for the team we both support, maybe...

imho Totally missing the point- why not dress in shirt sleeves and a period leather helmet and drive slower (so the paying public get to see and hear what they came for for a bit longer) rather than dress up as Dan Dare, Pilot of The Future? It's not as if he has anything to prove, is it?

Mmm. You watch him on TV and wonder what it is that makes him appear so awkward.

Never liked him, never will. Without the money he had to race - right from the beginning - he would never have made it. Many better.

(Chortle) No-one's safe on here !

He lost me when he spun off at Ascari on the warm-up lap at Monza after qualifying on the front, then crashed going into the pits at Adelaide. Sigh...

My mate always called him Warmthoft. :drunk: some people are cannon fodder...

I did enjoy the Monza spin, was watching it in a pub full of Union Jack wavers and couldn't help but laugh which went down really well (of course he became Scottish again pretty quickly after that).

I seem to remember a Coulthuck Up when he'd given a reporter a lecture on flappy paddle gearchanges not making any difference, because they were all so good they wouldn't mess up a proper gearchange and then proceeded to drive into the pitwall while leaving the pits?

Seems we have a TNFer, Nick Savage, to cheer for in the HSCC Historic Road Sports Championship

Posted Image

Nick asked if I had any pics of his #55 1969 Camaro,

Posted Image

with which he competed at Thruxton on Easter Sunday, above Nick is seen going through Segrave.

Posted Image

Nick spent the entire 20 mins of the Historic Road Sports race chasing the #3 302 Boss Mustang

Posted Image

driven by Martin Edridge.

Posted Image

Nick remembers "Martin Edridge and I had a wonderful race (he a 351 cu in, me a 350 c.i.) and we were very evenly matched."

Posted Image

Nick's next outing is scheduled for Silverstone on May 18th/19th, I shall look forward to seeing him doing battle again

Ralph has done the Chev Camaro proud - and thanks ! About a year ago, after 21 yrs of racing Alfas (1300/1600 and 2600) I decided that before I gave up racing I ought to experience what V8 power was like .... typical old coffin-dodger's whimsy.

Wow ! All I can say is that I should have done this years ago. Driving the Alfas there was enough time to read a newspaper or make a cup of tea between the corners. Not any longer - that car is faster than my brain ! And the noise it makes. Every start-up brings a tear to me eye (mainly the 5mpg on the circuit). That is how a car should sound. Throughout my time racing I have driven the cars to-and-from the tracks and I must say that the Camaro is very docile on the road - and not as heavy as the Alfa 2600 Sprint coupe I used to race a decade ago.

The other joy is that I think the era of American muscle-car styling from mid-Sixties until about 1972 was truly a magnificent period of simple elegance - and the Chev Camaro is an outstanding example.

I look forward to meeting TNFers at the May HSCC Silversone meeting.
Nick
