I was privileged to attend the unveiling on April 24th at the Peterson Automotive Museum.

They had all the iterations of the Alligator on display, starting with the A-1 up through the A-6, the "production" version. Dan's son Justin did a lot of the packaging and bodywork design. Justin had the honor of hatching the Alligator from the egg and riding it up to the presentation area.

Dan made a short speech about the evolution of the concept, proudly reflecting on two decades of work! Serial number 1 was presented to Mr. Peterson, for permanent display at the museum. New owners who gave speeches included Bruce Meyer, Reeves Callaway, and Perry King (the actor).

The crowd contained individuals from various forms of racing (Phill Hill, Don Prudomme, Eddie Lawson) and journalism (Denise McCluggage, Tim Considine, Jesse Alexander (who I had a chat with  )). I did not recognize most of the faces there, but given those I did see, there had to be more :) . Local media covered the event as well as the Speed Channel, so hopefully they will have a piece soon.

Dan invited us to sit on the A-6. Unusual seating position. Forward visibility not a problem, yet the rearview mirrors are small.

A very, very memorable occasion to say the least!

"Forward visibility not a problem, yet the rearview mirrors are small.".....you are right. After further road tests the mirrors have shown to be too small. New ones have already been mounted!

Justin,

If I come down to the factory this summer, will you let Kathy take me for a ride on an Alligator

Yes if you would like. She has been mostly riding my XR 100 and I don't know if she is ready for another 600 ccs? But she is welcome to try.
