On 4 March 1956 there was an early professional race meeting at Willow Springs, California. Because racing in this event would have endangered his SCCA and CSCC licenses, Tony Parravano quickly repainted his cars white and entered them in the name of his partner, Henry Maag. I know that Jimmy Bryan drove the 300S (3058) because there are pictures. Also there was a second MAAG entry which I can identify as Tony's Mondial (0448) driven by Jimmy Bryan. However, there was a third Parravano entry, which the MotoRacing report identifies simply as a "Grand Prix Maserati". It was driven by Gene Curtis. I mistakenly identify this car in the table in my book as 250F 2525. However, this is incorrect, since 2525 was the car Moss won Italy with in September 1956 and Parravano obviously did not take delivery until after that. Any ideas what "Grand Prix Maserati" was at Willow Springs in March 1956. Could this be one of the cars from the movie, The Racers.

I have been able to answer my own inquiry. At Willow Springs 4 March 1956, Gene Curtis did not race for Tony Parravano. His entrant was Darwin Maxon, who owned one of the two Maserati A6GCM2000 used in the movie The Racers.

I think one chassis was definitely '2038' -- or '2510' as it was known in 1954 -- but I have had differing chassis numbers offered for the second car. I have my ideas, naturally....

I am resurrecting this old thread in hope that someone may be able to offer photos of the Maserati that Jimmy Bryan drove in the Willow Springs race. I am researching in hopes of making a model of the car and am curious about the paint scheme. Thanks.

Herr Baumer's 300S book has two pictures, one credited only to "SCCA", the other from the Mick Walsh collection.

I'm sure the Maseratis used the 'The Racers' were the 4CLT based Plate F2 cars

There were two cars based on the Plate-modified 4CLTs and one based on an A6GCM.
