Hello lads.

I need your help with the Swedish airfield circuit of Skarpnäck.
It hosted the Swedish Grand Prix between 1948 and 1949, with Clemente Biondetti and Prince Bira as winners. Now work has started to make this track avilable for Grand Prix Legends; and a few pictures would be convenient :)

The track was open between 1948 and 1969, when it was closed for good. Today the track is replaced with houses and office blocks :(

So, I come to you people, to see if you can help out? Everything, pictures, aerial photo's etc would be very apprechiated.

Regards...

- John

Where are all the replies?

Surely, someone here must have some information on Skarpnäck.

Interesting that Stefan's map shown above, differs slightly from the 1955 Autosport Directory map that I supplied to Darren for his site:

http://www.silhouet....s/skarpnac.html

As far as Legends goes, it was an airfield so it is going to be pretty featuresless; or at least, that's what Stefan's map implies...

Oh, man! Memories, memories... Skarpnäck was the place where I learned to love racing. Went there with my dad in the late sixties. We were always stocked up with hot chocolate and sandwiches. Those are my fondest memories from childhood. And always when we came home I used to take out my slotracing kit and recreate the whole event. Unfortunately I also remember having a shelf in the garage full of programmes and leaflets from Skarpnäck. They're all gone.

Thanks for reminding me and good luck in your quest, John!

Barry, Autosport is wrong on this one!
The place was absoulety flat, and the track was not much liked by the drivers. The story goes that the club who owned the track (MS=Motorsällskapet="Motor Society") sold the land to get money to pay their speedway World Champion Anders Michanek. And now the track is gone, and so is the speedwayteam!

Featureless? Don't say that before you have driven the track!

Er... Autosport was correct 1955:blush:
A friend of mine has pointed out three layouts for Skarpnäck:
1948-1952 3000 metres
1952-1955 1700 metres
1959-1969 2200 metres (the picture above)

Phew! What a relief. I was beginning to doubt my book!

Now all I have to do is prove that Chimay is actually in France, where my book puts it, and everything will be fine!

I was about to ask. I've got this old Cooper T-81 under a dust-sheet in my wireframe garage. Leaks a bit of oil, and the fuel injectors need cleaning; otherwise it's in fine condition, and ready for a run to shake out the cobwebs! :smoking:

Circuit Chimay,
Tour de contrôle du circuit,
Route de Salles,
6460 Chimay,
Belgium

Active Years: 1926 to date

Circuit Length: 4.520km, 15 turns (Original circuit: 6.74 miles, 16 turns)
Circuit type: Temporary road course

A fast temporary road course close to Charleoi on the French border , Chimay was for many years the home of the Grand Prix de Frontières. By 1972 it had become too dangerous for modern racing cars and David Purley won the final F3 race, the circuit holding motorcycle events thereafter. However, in 1996 it was revived in a shortened form as a venue for the Belgian Procar championship - although the fast sweeps had gone, replaced with chicane-blighted straights and a largely rectangular layout.

From : http://www.etracks.f...ope/chimay.html

Could it be that some parts went over the border to France?
