I saw this car listed for sale at the following location....
http://www.fantasyju....com:auto:FJ789
and noticed that it is being sold with an automatic transmission.
Does anyone know the history of MARCH in the Can-Am series and if this automatic transmission was normal or perhaps something put into this particular model recently?
Thanks.
Warren

Though the March factory team used Chaparral-built engines in 1970, none of several sources I've checked makes any mention of the 707 racing (or even tested) with a slushbox. I'd venture that it was installed by a later owner.

That car is certainly a beauty!!!

Auto trans are the work of the devil himself!!

...but Chris, himself drove a Ford GT40 with the dreaded box in selected sportscar races in the mid sixties.

How much would you like to know about the history of March in Can-Am? Basically, they entered part-way through the 1970 season. The car showed promise, but there wasn't enough time to work out the bugs, so it didn't achieve much success. Driven by Amon, of course.

The rear half was similar to the McLaren M8-series... stressed engine, etc. Doesn't tell us much about the transmission, though.

Found this pic of a March 707 in an album of photo's that suggests British GP Meeting 1982, I seem to have lost all my programmes, wondering if anybody knows the chassis number does the name Ted Williams ring any bells in connection with this car ?

Thanking you in anticipation of your responses :-)

Definitely - I saw him race the March several times in the early '80s. He gets several mentions in this other 707 thread:

march 707

Edit: Here's another thread which discusses 707 chassis numbers:

March 707-01

I seem to remember Frank Bradley racing a 707 for a while. Was this the same car?

From what I understand on the threads Tim has linked Ted Williams had 707/3 the un raced in period spare car and Frank Bradley has been more recently seen in the 707 - 717/1 the ex Kelleners machine seen here running with 717 bodywork. It appears that Teds 707/3 has been doing the museum rounds first in Germany and more recently in Holland. I stand to be corrected on these details though.

Ted's car was very badly shunted at Silverstone in the mid 80s, he lost it on the exit of Abbey and collected the sleeper wall, head-first, somewhere between Abbey and the old Bridge. I remember seeing the wreck under a sheet in the paddock looking very short....
Was it re-tubbed afterwards?

He raced the car At Castle Combe in the Libre series, winning one race. Must have been a sight to see! Anyone got any photos from that event?
