Not that there is much interest in this topic, but here is what I have compiled for the IMRRC magnum opus on Championship Racing. There are some gaps that I haven't plugged yet simply due to a lack of time. There is the possibilty that the Wetteroth used by Floyd Davis and Mauri Rose might have been the chassis Buck Baker used during 1952. At any rate, thanks to Greg Fielden and Speed Age magazine, here is what we know about the series.

Excellent job Don  Thanks for posting it.

(and it also saved me from digging out my incomplete results ;) )

Now, about the 1953 season...

The 1952 season came to an end theoretically due to the stell strike that Summer. It was announced that the series would resume in September. It obviously didn't. And the crowds really weren't all that bad considering.

In 1953, it started with speed runs on the beach and then hit a streak of bad luck that doomed it if it wasn't already. NASCAR teamed the Speedway Division events with the Sportsman Division series. Not a great move.

Of the three events scheduled for early June -- the 9th at Fayetteville, the 10th at Greensboro, the 13th at Hickory -- the Fayetteville and Hickory events got rained out. At Hickory there were only 11 cars in the Speedway Division which showed up. The format was 10-lap heat races and then a 25-lap feature and the purse was only $2,500, down from 1952.

Fayetteville was rescheduled for 28 June. There was another event at Martinsville but I haven't got the date down as of yet.

Final Standings were:
333 points Pete Allen
330 points Ralph Liguori
Al Fleming
Mickey Fenn
Tex Keene

In the NASCAR Record Book for the 1953 season, the Speedway Division is scarcely mentioned, it is almost as if it didn't exist. And ditto for coverage in any magazines for 1953.

If someone wants a challenge....

Excellent data! Now one of the most hopeless gap in my open-wheeler results is filled.

I have found in Greg Fielden books that one-mile time trial at Daytona was also held in 1952 as three succesive runs over a three-day period. It was first but unofficial Speedway Divi
sion event. Buck Baker has quickest time and won 1000$ top prize. Are more details on Daytona 1952 speed trial known?

BTW, statistics and results of Grand National/Winston Cup easy to find, but other Divisions and non-NASCAR stock car racing is very obscure to me. Can somebody recommend the source where I can find more about Sportsman, Modified and Short-Track NASCAR Divisions (list of races, winners) and data on non-NASCAR sanctioned races?

I suppose you look for the ARA (Auto Racing Analysis) CD-ROM, I bought mine at www.amazon.com. I believe they have a website as well... you might give google a try.

[sorry, it's too hot here to be more specific ;) If you have trouble locating the thing, let me know and I'll give you better instructions! :)]

Racing Reference. Doesn't include the Speedway Division though.
