In the 60's and 70's there were two Ford GT40 racing here at Portugal.
One was GT40 P 1022, which raced here from 1968 to 1970 in the hands of Carlos Gaspar and Luis Fernandes, and was bought by Gaspar from Liddell.
The other was raced in Angola and Portugal by Emilio Marta from late 60's until late 70's!!!
After a career down there, the GT40 came to Portugal after Angola's independence and raced here always in Marta's hands.
I couldn't find any registries of the chassis number, and l'd like to know if someone here at TNF have any idea of that.
Here are some photos of the car that have some fancy rear spoilers? and which also had run with the Gulf colours at some time.

The Racing History of the GT40, by Gordon Jones and John Allen says that this was chassis 1080:
"Purchased from A F Pires, angola at the end of 1969. Blue stripes were added to the white body, with the wheel centres also blue. The car was raced extensively by Marta in Portugal and angola from 1970 to 1979. At one stage in its career, 1080 was painted in Gulf livery, and fitted with fins on the rear deck."

brickyard,
Ronnie Spain's "GT40" book also confirms the identity of this chassis as 1080:
1st owner, A.F. Pires, Carmona, Angola, who apparently never raced it.
2nd owner, Emilio Marta, Angola, who managed to escape to Vila Nova de Gaia (Portugal) while Angola was in Civil War.
Racing record while in Angola:
'71 Angolan Championship (12 races), Emilio Marta, 3rd
'72 Angolan Championship (12 races), Emilio Marta, 2nd
'73 Angolan Championship (12 races), Emilio Marta, winner
'74 Angolan Championship, Emilio Marta raced in 3 events
Carles.

I love the GT 40 as well as the Porsche 917 especially in Gulf colors. Never seen that car with that tail fins and never heard about races in Angola.
