Hi guys,
Sorry to raise a two wheel thread but was just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of either books, websites, articles etc regarding the history of the Isle of Man TT. In terms of the history of the event I only know (details may be sketchy) that it lost its place in the professional motorcycle calender in the 70's when many of the top riders (especially Barry Sheene) campaigned for it to be removed from the international calender.
Any info will be much appreciated.
Thank You

Try "http://www.iomtt.com.../TTResults.asp" for starters.

I haven’t read it, but there is a book by Mac McDiarmid called The Magic of the TT

While I can't add anything significant to this thread, it's a subject which fascinates me. Going there "one of these days" is pretty high on my list of Things To Do.

While the circuit is nothing short of lethal, it certainly continues to attract me -- as a spectator. (I'd need a time machine and a double dose of brave pills before I'd even think about riding a quick lap there.)

Have any TNFers ever been there?

Probably the best book published to date is the lavish 'Motocourse History ot the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy Races' by Nick Harris. This is in the format of the Autocourse / Motocourse books and contains a comprehensive history of the event with all the results, technical notes and lots of photos. It was published in 1990.

You could also look out for the Island Racer magazine, which comes out once a year. The website is http://www.islandracer.co.uk

Maybe next year - isn't it the weekend before Le Mans?
