The Mille Miglia continued on as a rally, rather than a road-race for a few years after 1957...

Mille Miglia 1957 was not the last edition.
AFAIK there were three more editions, in 1958, 1959 and 1961, but it was a regularity race. On my site I have maps of 1958 and 1959 editions; I don't have any result and any more info about the 1961 edition, that should have been the last one.
After that - I think in 1970s - Mille Miglia became a local Rally (raced on the mountains near Brescia and Lake of Garda, nothing to do with traditional Mille Miglia) and year after year it become much more important and from some years is an European Championship Rally.

while searching other stuff, I've found the '59 Rallye della Mille Miglia top-3 finishers:

1) Carlo-Mario Abate / Balzarini, Ferrari 250GT LWB Berlinetta Scaglietti

Stunning, isn't it? 3 Ferraris as top-3 finishers in a rally... wow!!! :clap:

Great :clap: but not stunning: it wasn't a Rally, it was a regularity race. I think this race and rallyes had completely different rules.
By the way, somewhere I should have official rules.

Surely a rally and a regularity trial are almost the same thing.

They comprise a series of stages with a set time for each and competitors are penalised for arriving earlier or later than the set time. The only difference is that on some rallies there is no penalty for early arrival.

To be honest, I don't know nearly nothing about Rallyes in 1959, but nowhere in official rules Mille Miglia 1959 was considered a rally. Moreover:

(from official rules of Mille Miglia 1959 - rough translation is mine)
La gara è valida per il campionato italiano di velocità per la categoria Turismo (classi 500 - 750 - vetture fino a 1100 - 1300 - oltre 1300 fino a 2600) e per la categoria Gran Turismo (classi fino a 750 - vetture fino a 1100 - 1300 - 2600 - oltre 2600). La corsa è altresì valida per il campionato di velocità della Federazione Italiana delle Scuderie Automobilistiche.

The race is valid for Italian Speed Championship, Tourism class (500 - 750 - cars up to 1100 - 1300 - more than 1300 up to 2600) and Grand Tourism (up to 750 - cars up to 1100 - 1300 - 2600 - more than 2600). This race is valid also for speed championship of Italian Car Team Federation.

Only a little remark, searching the accuracy of the data: probably the chap called Jolly (codriver of Clarou) is Joly, who was later known as codriver of Patrick Vanson sharing the DS Citroëns.
