Somewhat inspired by Philsy's reminders of some American drivers of the past, I wonder whether we can dig up any info on the obscure drivers who cropped up elsewhere on the racing scene?

Enrico Debenedetti drove a CoBRa Lola in F3000 to a few desultory DNQs, but apart from that and the very basic biographical info in the F3000 yearbook that's all I know about him. There seemed to be a lot of Italians who cropped up in the late 80s in F3k and did sweet FA...

Anyone else know anything about him?

There was an Enrico de Benedetti who did an IMSA GTP race with Stefano Livio in a DeBlasi Racing Alba-Buick in 1989. Probably the same guy.

Yes!

Don't remember a lot about him, I dare to say he wasn't one of the most impressive Italians of that "generation"....infact I was quite surprised that he was chosen by Alba for what happened to be a CSAI (Italian ASN) supported program...

Another mystery.

So, wise owls of TNF:-

Any idea what happened to him?
Any idea where he was born?
Any idea if the 1st January 1964 is an accurate birthdate or one just put in for convienence?

I know he was a F3000 backmarker, but I am still surprised there is so little information on him.

Although I'm still not totally convinced the 1st Jnuary is a genuine birthdate, this report confirms it is De Benedetti (note the space) and that he was from Liguria. http://www.adnkronos...IONE_191300.php.

I'm guessing it's not Genoa as I would've thought they would say that in the report, so probably a smaller town. I'll keep digging. Although de Benedetti appears in Formula Ford 3 years after F3000, I'm pretty certain it's him. Another person mentioned, Alberto Legnaro, is 47/48 now, so he'd be in the same kind of age bracket as E d B.

Sadly, thanks to a tip-off from Leandro Kojima, Enrico has passed away. In fact, as long ago as 2016.

Leandro sent me a newspaper report which confirms the man in the link is the same Enrico D.

I think, Richard, from your first link one can safely say that Enrico Debenedetti did not die in Castellar Guidobono (which seems to have been the village where he lived) but in hospital in Tortona. And the spelling obviously was not “de Benedetti”.

The newspaper report says he died at home in Castellar Guidobono. It was quite specific. I'll have to find your email and send it across.
