Later sold to a Mr Piper, but I'm not sure if he still has it

I think that it may have been reacquired by Picko Troberg.

Yes Stirling, i am sure he did and Ray Mallock ? springs to mind too in the Marsh Plant T70 . Gregor will confirm this .

Good grief another spots car, like the Porsche 917 - 021 I photographed at the same meeting, comes back to life from being a pile of rubble.

Looks like I will have plenty of time line picture projects to work on when I next get snowed in :-)

I may still have the relevant copies of Illustrerad Motor Sport, but the race reports would be in Swedish. If it's of interest, I'll have a look in my attic.
I attended the Karlskoga event, the Kanonloppet, sitting on the pit counter during practice when a rear radius rod snapped on one of the Lolas, spinning it into the cars sitting in the pit. It actually hit a mechanic and it looked a lot worse than it turned out to be, thankfully.

one of the Lolas, spinning it into the cars sitting in the pit. It actually hit a mechanic and it looked a lot worse than it turned out to be, thankfully.

...which reminds me of the Chapman Spooner T70Aston coupe hitting the pitwall at Silverstone in the 80s.

The Minshaw's T70MkII Spyder with 5.7 V8 pictured at Cholmondeley in July. I'm unsure if it really is the Sid Taylor car.........

My late Father In-Law Kevin Shearer restored a Syd Taylor/ Denny Hulme Spyder T70 quite a few years ago. The car was spotted by film director Matt Carroll on Sydney's streets, it was road registered and still had the Hewland LG500 and Fuel Injection stacks! Matt knew what the car was and asked if it was for sale, the guy was happy to part with it because he reckoned all the syncros in the box were shot!
Kevin restored the car in the mid 1990's I think. Matt later sold the car to a buyer in the USA. I always have loved the big sportscars.

The presentation of the chassis plate in the pic is pretty much irrelevant as some panels have been removed and replaced. I suspect as "Writer" aka John Starkey suggests in his March 31st 2010 post that this is the Sklenar 'project' car, chassis plated for convenience by Bonnier. Michael Hanson, the current owner claims no more than that the car is ex-Bonnier and is a proper Lola. Somehow, I think I'd rather own this than a recent continuation car.

Here is an interesting photo taken in Karlskoga with left to right, Cedric Selzer, Phil Bradford & Ron Bennett who were running Sid Taylor's Lola, John Wagstaff in the background and an unidentified young lady from the locality with an unidentified mechanic. The Young Mechanic with the red trousers was working on the Trevor Taylor car but cannot remember his name. The young Blonde was one of 2 young Ladies that latched on to Ron Bennett & myself & came to everyone of the races in the series,sleeping in a tent at the Circuits, not saying anymore except we had a great time (nudge nudge wink wink)

I suppose these two shots may represent Bernd Seidler's first race after having acquired SL102. They were taken at Zotzenbach hill climb on 22/03/1970:

When actually did the T70 Mk III make his first appearance at a race track? I found contradicting information regarding this. Whereas Autocar reports "Additional interference was expected from a Lola T70 which, however, non-started with a bent left front suspension and frame ...", Gregor Grant writes in his report that the Lola of Buck Fulp and Roger McCluskey failed to arrive. Motorsport doesn`t mention the Lola at all.
That the car was at Sebring, but failed to start the race, is also mentioned in the T70 books of Ian Bamsey and John Starkey. According to Starkey (and Janos Wimpffen in Time and Two Seats) it was chassis number SL73/102. But Starkey contradicts himself because in the chassis history he writes it was SL71/18.

So did Lola T70 really appear at Sebring in 1967? If so, was it the new MkIII coupé or still an open top version? If it was there has somebody seen picutures of that car? Or was the debut of the MkIII at the Le Mans Test a week later where John Surtees drove the Aston Martin coupe?

You're right. It is mentioned in the May issue of Motorsport. I must have overlooked it somehow. Any ideas which car was practiced at Sebring?

The text has just been cut from the catalogue verbatim. There's four paragraphs about the car it's not & two about the car that it is...
It does have a chassis plate numbered 138.

Was the car sold? When raced by JB it seemed to be the best prepared T70. With so many of the other cars bought and prepared so professionally over the past 3 to 4 years this would probably be no better now.

According to Starkey's book it was a Spider & always raced in Can-Am as such, so I guess it's right now

The MKIII was designed from the beginning to allow for such conversion. While it probably took months to convert it to spyder form initially, at this point the conversion back to coupe could be done in a weekend making it a versatile car for various series. Notice that the car retains the low crossbeam of the coupe and the wiper motor.
I hope he brings it to Road America.

Can't provide much to go on now, BUT in the early 70's I helped convert a red coupe for road use that was said to be ex-David Piper while working at Charlie Williams shop here in Kansas City. It was owned by Tim Cooper although he did not keep it long. Just remember some late night test drives that were pretty spectacular. At the time we didn't seem too interested in recording chassis numbers although I am curious as to the history of the car now that retirement has given me time to reflect.

That's the chap Doug. I'm not quite sure why you are asking (unless there was more than one roadgoing T70 in Ormskirk) as IIRC shortly after Clive's passing, you visited Ormskirk on behalf of a dealer and wrote something up about it which was published somewhere with a couple of pics? Can't remember where or when that appeared tho'. :confused:

Considering the time frame and location, I am fairly certain this is SL73/117, the ex-James Garner AIR car that was subsequently used in the George Lucas film THX1138. After the film it was owned by racer Jon Ward who traded it to Dan McLoughlin who later sold it back to Ward. Next the car went to drag racer Eddie Hill and is talked about earlier in this thread.

I wasn't asking you, Tony, I was telling the audience without checking my now faltering memory. We sold various of his effects at auction for his executors. My visit was as consultant to Bonhams, not "on behalf of a dealer"...we get quite sniffy, doncha know, about the difference.

A dealer puts his own interests first whereas a proper, respectable auctioneer acts as an agent of the vendor. Hem, hem (shifts from foot to foot and in saintly manner fixes eyes upon distant horizon).

Well I'm glad you put me right on that one Doug (perish the thought.....) IIRC his D-Type went to Irvine Laidlaw, but can you recall in which direction (roughly if necessary) the Lola went?

I seem to recall the Unsworth Lola was a Mk3, but not a b.
