As for the frame, I understand the owners thinking. The owner used to race cars years ago and was never pleased with the amount of upkeep you had to do on a bird cage (constantly checking each joint and re-welding them when they loosened) and wanted something he could drive without fail... in that respect I understand.

Apparently the same goes for the engine, it is just a matter of time before it self destructs.
Someone who supplies new Birdcage engines told me he would not want a car with one (original or repro) in it!

Coco
Can you please let me know which UK outfit produce a replica Birdcage

Coco,
You have received good information regarding Crosthwaite & Gardner in the UK although I think they may be more reluctant to build more Birdcages than is thought. They do produce a fair amount of major components and spare parts but of course the real cost and difficulty is in the chassis and the engines are costly to replicate in either 2 or 3 liter specs for the Tipo 60 or 61 respectively.
If it is your wish to obtain an exact replica Birdcage which is built, then I can be of assistance but don't expect this to be an exercise for the faint hearted.
