Mauricio De Narvaez

These days, the most prominent political character in Argentina is a guy called Carlos Reutemann, maybe you've heard a bit about him. He recently won the election in his province, he will remain as senator for the third time (second consecutive) and, the fact is, has enormous chance to become once and definitely a serious contender for presidency.

But the interesting thing is the guy who won the election in the biggest Argentinian province, Buenos Aires -when, more than a century ago, Juan Domingo Perón was born- an entrepreneur called Francisco De Narváez. Not because he want to run for governor next election -so he will avoid clashing with Reutemann in whic is, essentially, the same party- but because he was born not in Argentina but in Colombia.

And some petrolheads will remember that there was a Colombian De Narvaez racing in the '80s in the infamous International Marijuana Smugglers Association (a.k.a. IMSA). This racing guy was called Mauricio De Narváez and won an edition (¿1984?) of the Sebring 12 Hours sharing a Porsche with Stefan Johansson and Hans Heyer. Curiously, Johansson is married with an argentinian lady and, according to one of the last issues of F-1 racing, he owned a vineyard in this country. Has him some De Narvaez financial help? (and, by the way, I didn't like his quote saying that "all people care about in Argentina is good food and good wine". We care about some good governance and some good motor sport also.

I want to know if there are any links between both De Narvaez guys, but I found so little about Mauricio. Could anybody tell me someting?

Perhaps anyone knows something about Mauricio de Narvaez, the winner of the Sebring 12 Hours 1984? What is he doing now? How can I reach him? Perhaps has anyone has a postal address? Hey!!! Mauricio is one of my closests friends. He now is 70-something and lives in Colombia. A true gentleman. Last year we reunited with John Fitzpatrick, Derek Bell, Stefan Johansson, Hans Hermann and Rainhold Joest for the 60 aniversary of the Sebring 12-hour as Porsche America guests.

Mauricio is still active in motorsport, as President of the colombian FIA sporting commision, as well as advisor for the FIA Sport Vicepresident in America. He is helping young colombian drivers in their careers.
