Okay, that just convinced me that the car shape makes it butt-ugly regardless of what colors is in. :|

Jup, the flat nose of the Renaults and BMWs make they both the uggliest cars in this season, or, what I'm talking about, they are the uggliest cars since I remember, or please can somebody find me something uglier? (I mean F1 cars, not Fiat Multipla or something:))

What about this?

See? Looks nothing like a Brawn, even though it has white, black and yellow.

I take it that is a photoshopped pic?

That post has sense, however there's a question I have to ask: didn't DC race in a white Red Bull last year in Brasil?

He did, but that was a one-off livery to mark his final race, and that was most likely prepared well in advance. The suggestion in this race is that Renault will run a "classic" livery that will be Renault and Renault only (except for Total and the odd minor sponsor). The problem is that they've already got that by replacing ING wih Renault decals so it'll be a hard case to make for them to change now. There's nothing a "classic" livery can do that their curent one doesn't already have.

I take it that is a photoshopped pic?

Photoshopped or not, it still looks terrble.

It's not going to happen. If there was half a dozen races left in the season and they were all European, then maybe. But the point is that we're halfway through an away leg, and the cars went directly to Brazil from Japan and they'll then go on to Abu Dhabi. In order to re-paint them, the cars would have to be shipped back to England and re-done, which I'm told can take up to a week. And tht's just for a bare chassis; I've never heard of a team doing a re-spray midseason before. The paint would obviously have to be removed and reapplied; the only circumstances under which Renault might repaint their cars would be if both chassis were written off. There's simply no point in repainting the cars simply for two races when the livery they currently have does the same job and costs nothing. Sentimentality might be nice, but it's damn expensive

And the 30th Anniversary Edition livery is as ugly as the current one.

In fact, years ago I read an interview with Ron Dennis wherein he said the McLarens were stripped and repainted btwn nearly every grand prix weekend. he said the cars had to look their best for the sponsors and that obviously they had to be stripped because just applying paint would add weight which would, of course, be unacceptable.

Well I'm not in love with this particular livery myself - I prefer the 30th anniversary version over this - but then it isn't any worse than the ex-ING colour scheme either.

And it certainly doesn't look like a Brawn... ;)

Very true, all teams send away most parts of the car to be repainted for each race and to be stress tested.

I wonder what their plan is for the coming year concerning the title sponsor. Bank is in, so some French banks in frame? (or exactly no as reflecting french 'social' states...?)

Banks and financial institutions are a bit funny because of the economy. We're slowly clawing our way out of recession, but if you look at it, RBS is leaving Williams, and ING was going to depart from Renault before the investigation. But on the other hand, Santander are increasing their involvement by sponsoring Ferrari without actually leaving McLaren. The banks have money, it's just a question of how well they're faring. That said, French insurance giant Matmut sponsor the ORECA Le Mans team. Something like this might actually look pretty good:

Posted Image

It's a template of a GP2 car for BATracer, but you get the point.

The other major source of money these days seems to be from telecom group. McLaren have Vodafone, Williams have AT&T, Campos are said to be in talks with Telefonicia, BMW Sauber have had T-Mobile, and so on and so forth. Renault are no exception, they have Russian provider MegaFon lending their name. They're only a minor sponsor, but with Renault signing Kubica for next season, MegaFon might be interesed in increasng their sponsorship. Especilly if they were to sign Vitaly Petrov, but I thik he'll be going elsewhere.

The other source seems to be in petrochemicals. BMW Sauber have Petronas, and while Lotus were interested in them, Petronas are said to be more interesed in Williams. Ferrari hae Shell, but I think that logo is there because Shell is a technical partner. Renault already have an arrangement with Total, who clearly weren't fightened off after the investigaton and may be willing to step up as title sponsor. Although it would mean another multi-coloured car, Total's red, orange, pink and light blue would work fairly well together; certainly better than the current arrangement.

Seriously, after saying how terrible and disgusting you find the yellow-black offerings above you come out with this headache of a color mishmash? You can say you think the other one doesn't make sense or whatever, but aesthetically, forget it man!

In fact, they could even leave the current livery mostly intact & just paint over the orange bits with black & it would still be a huuuuuge improvement imo.

I didn't actually make it. And it's better than the anniversary livery because the anniversay livery is too busy. A livery needs to be static; it might look good standing still, but Formula One cars spend most of their time moving. I think the Honda My Earth Dreams livery was one of the best-looking when the car was stationary, but it was terrible when in motion. All that the person who made this Matmut livery really did was colour in the individual panels, but you can see what the intent it in re-creating the ORECA livery. It may not be the best, but it's a damn sight better than the anniversary one.

Personally, if I were Renault, I would produce a livery that was black and made to look like raw carbon fibre (but following the curves of the car; if it were actually raw carbon fibre, some parts would appear odd because they're build in certain ways to improve rigidity). I'd then stick sponsor decals over the top of it so that it looked as if we had simply slapped them on as soon as the car came off the production line. I reckon it would look like an absolute monster; it's not something I'd want to see in my rear view mirrr.

But if you think you can do a better job, go ahead and make one. An original one; don't just post a picture of an old Renault.

Yes, it is. It was in Autosport as part of an article speculating that they may return to a Renault (yellow/black) colour scheme.

the cool thing about that car is not the livery. Its ground effect, turbo and Alain Prost, nothing to do with livery

Also that the car looks like the sort of thing a 6 year old would draw.
Pointy noise, Check.
Go faster stripe, Check.
Big number 15, Check.
Fins to make it fast, Check.

RS01 looks like it's made from Lego!

There's a photo of Alain Prost testing a completely yellow-and-black RE40 at Rio prior to the 1983 Brazilian Grand Prix in the test driver thread in TNF. Perhaps that would be a good colour scheme?

It's a real shame renault aren't taking advantage of the situation they're in, and returning to their traditional colours. I really thought there was a more than likely chance of this happening, as ING still have their colours on the car (albeit minus the logo), and they are effectively getting free exposure. I thought no-one gets anything for free in F1? Not to mention, if ING were as "disgusted" by Renault's actions in Singas 08 as they made out to be, you think they'd demand their corporate colours be removed immediately. Puzzling???

ING were evidently satisfied with the removal of their logos. ING's predominant colours are dark blue and orange; the yellow is evidently Renault's. The team would have said something if they were going to run a different livery for the last few races, and since they clearly didn't, I'm a little bemused as to why you thought they would.

BTW ING uses WHITE backgrond and touch of Orange in some form and for their letters very dark blue.

So WHITE, Orange is ONG, and appearently white you can find it in many of old Renault livery. I assume that Renault could replace ornage with black, then it could have settle the thing pretty well...

Yep, I suggested this very thing somewhere back on page two. If renault cover my airfair to Brazil, I'll fly out personally with a quart of black paint, a brush, and some masking tape. :) Two cars shouldn't take me long at all. Prolly be done in time for the night life..

If there was one way to make the yellow, orange and white livery uglier, it was to make it yellow, orange and black.

Besides if the white was changed to black, wouldn't the black RENAULT have to be changed to white?

And since they're clearly not doingit, why are we even having this conversation?

No, no, paint the orange bits black. Then you're left with Renault F1's traditional colours, yellow, white & back. Seriously, I'm free to hop over and do it this weekend. Somebody tell Bob Bell. :)

those, umm, were my thoughts that i posted earlier, so, umm, thats why i was thinking that.

anyways, i live in hope the colours similar to what they used in the early eighties will make an appearance in 2010. that's the last of my thoughts on this subject, promise.;)

I think the problem is that they'd have to return to the UK to repaint the car and all the bits.

The last two races are in Brazil and Bahrain as we know, so I don't think it'll be possible.

Yes, yes...I know this is a dead thread, but I just caught it now, and couldn't help adding my bit. Renault still has a 2010 livery to choose.

To my eyes, the anniversary Renaults are...an improvement? Sort of. Just like the ING colours livery, that car is too busy. More black, less lettering, fewer pointless details, ditch the white altogether. It's the opposite of the Brawn problem – almost no negative space.

Out of the current crop of cars, only the Red Bulls, the Ferraris and the McLarens really catch my eye as looking nice. I'm going to say something very unpopular, seeing as how so many rave about this livery, but I hate the look of the Brawns. All that white with those too, too day glo accents. IMO, the worst livery I've seen in years; even beyond the ING-era Renaults. I can't help it – to me, the white looks cheap, almost like the livery was an afterthought. I have to smention though, I do like that fine blue and yellow Renault posted earlier in this thread! If a derivative (there's still something missing, but it's a very good start) of that was the livery they chose for 2010 I'd be quite pleased. Unfortunately, sponsors determine the colour scheme, and unless Renault plan to pull an Earth Dreams Honda and eliminate sponsors, we won't be seeing anything much like either fawned-over livery in this topic.

Couldn't agree more. All I can think of when I see the livery is that it looks like it was designed by Wham! That said Button is a bit boybandish..

It shouldn't be difficult for renault to improve the livery for 2010, plus they can get rid of the clown suit overalls, esecially since the two biggest clowns will have left the team (Teflonso and Flav).
