Hello All, I am hoping you guys can help. I am looking for a DVD version of the 1970s Datsun PR film From Against All Odds. If you have a copy (I have a DVD duplicator) or if you know where I can get a copy, please message me.

For those of you who have never heard of this flick, it is a must see for all 2.5 Challenge enthusiasts. Chock-full of period in-car footage from places like Riverside, Road America, and Laguna Seca, this film is a time capsule and a real treasure to both the ears and eyes.

I attached a link to a version of the film I had found online. Although it is uncut, it is a very compressed and doesnt do it justice.

Enjoy,

Clay

After a lot of searching, the Google Gods pointed towards a Higher resolution version of "Against All Odds" on Youtube. Not sure, how my typing in "john morton against all odds" was any different this time than the last 20 times i did a similar search...either way this it is a quality version. Thank you YouTube!

Enjoy the movie, it is a Great one!

GREAT PHOTOS, especially the one from Canada Corner at Road America. I was 10 then, and remember that race pretty well.

Awesome.

These are some links to AMAZING photo galleries that feature Trans-Am Racing.

KEN COLES RACING PHOTOS: This site has pictures of the front runners as well as the back markers. This is an absolutely fabulous site with a wealth of images worthy of framing. I cant say enough about the quality of this collection. If you are looking for an image of your Trans-Am A sedan this site is a great place to start! Sadly the site does not feature B sedan.

PLEASE NOTE: These two images were attached to show the quality and variety of his gallery. Visit his website to view and purchase his high resolution images.

WALT BOENINGER PHOTO COLLECTION (featured on shelbytransam.com): I will not lie, the link to this collection is hard to find. Hidden far below the fold, deep within this great website is one of the best Trans-Am photo collections I have ever seen. It features cars that ran at the 1972 Watkins Glen Race. Below is the direct link to that collection and another hidden on the site

Friends:

After watching Against All Odds (see post 152), I wondered who Mike Downs was, so I googled him. Turns out he's writing mystery novels based on his racing experiences (see http://www.mikedowns...eries.com/home). Make sure you read the section Tales of the Road.

According to the historictransamracing site, this west coast based group will be heading off to Le Circuit for the Legends event July 8-10 and then back to the Kohler at RA July 15-17.

This will be a chance to see many of the original cars at two great tracks. Maybe it's time for one more trip back there?

Thanks Clay, had not seen that entry sheet before. I see someone penciled in #1 at top, That would likely be Ed Wachs on Alfa GTA. He is known to use #1 in 1970 and he shows in the SCCA result for the 1970 Donnybrooke event. Please post this list on the Alfa BB. Great pics BTW.

Facebook has led me to yet another great series of photographs. Tim Winker of Saginaw, Minnesota posted these images taken at Donnybrooke 1970. Tom is the brother of Jerry Winker, whom posted some great images on this blog a year or so ago. They were of the of the 1972 Donnybrooke Trans-Am race. This is a link to that series http://www.comicozzi...ery2/v/1972/TA/ in case you missed it.

Of the Tim Winker photos, these are some of my favorites.

Dear all

I am still hard trying to find another photos of Ed Diamond's Mustang #5. He participated the 1966 Sebring 4 Hours and the 1966 V.I.R.400. Additionally he started on some SCCA races in the S/A class in the New York area. I only found these two photos so far...

Thank you very much in advance.

Cheers,
Tim

BTW: the suspension of #5 was set up by Maynard Troyer

P.S. Mr. Donnelly if you are reading this, I would love to see the other pictures you shot that day.

PHOTO 2
"In the pits, the Alfa GTAs entered by the Wetson's team are number 2, Bert Everett--another top Alfa driver--the number 3 of Horst Kwech, and the number 4 of Harry Theodoracopoulos. At the time, the Wetson's name didn't mean anything to me, because we didn't have those places in Canada. I remember that around 1972, Herb Wetanson got some money out of Pepsi-Cola and they changed the team cars' color to blue, at least temporarily. It never came close to having the same impact as the Wetson's orange that they started out with."

Hi Clay, Thanks for posting these pics, The list above is in error in that Bert Everett was on #2 GTV, Wetson sponsor for the 1971 TA at Watkins Glen, as indicated by the entry list you posted and the other result. He was not on #25 GTA. This was Everett's first of 3 rides on #2 Wetson GTV, Teaming with Kwech and Harry T. Not sure where this eronius list is from and I did not check it for other errors. The SCCA result also is in error listing Everett on Alfa GTA.

Regards

Ken

Hi Tim, thanks for posting this. I have this issue of SCG and SCG also covered some other races in other issues with some good pctures. They gave one of the better coverages of the magazines for 1966.

That is my Alfa GTA, #42, Richards/Alderman with the 3 white triangles lower nose, following the Baracuda in the lower right picture, last page of the VIR event. The other Alfa GTA is probably the Kweck/Andrey #6.

Do you mind if I post these over on the Alfa BB Trans Am Thread or you can?

Ciao

You're very welcome, Ken.

That's awesome, I didn't realize that you own Alfa #42!! Congrats for this great piece of racing history!

Of course I remember the Alfa BB thread... As you should know I am scanning everything looking for another picture of Ed Diamond Mustang # - unfortunately I still was unlucky. However I have such a great support from Ed Diamond and his Chief of Crew that I can finish my T/A #5 project without any other pictures.

Ciao

Hi all - i am new here , but am very glad to have come across and thanks to all of you for posting this vintage trans am info - absolutely wonderful.

I am wondering if any of you can assist - i have only come across two pictures of a '68 Craig Fisher Firebird - one in Friedmans book and one in an old muscle car magazine i have - and both are black and white photos - i think of car racing at Bryar in '68....thanks very much - hope some of you lucky enought to have been involved 'back in the day' might recall from seeing in person?? i wish i had been around then to experience it all!!!

regards, Ron

Here's two photos of the Firebird I think you're looking for at Watkins Glen at a Trans-Am weekend during the early 1970's.

Here are some related cars.
Some of the factories used the Grand American series as a warm-up.
As great as this racing was, I still find it hard to believe that someone has not created something similar to either the Trans-Am or origianl Grand American. Heck even a redo of the old ASA series would be better than what we have and I do not mean tube-frame or spec. series imitations.

Hi all

Im so glad I found this thread.Although I have not been through ever page I will tonight.
I recently became interested in the series after watching the touring car masters live at a track here in Australia.
I really want to read as much as I can about the series but i have noticed the couple of books Ive seen sell for over $150 ea.
I have found this site really good. http://www.trans-amseries.com/
Are these the actually cars that raced back in the day?Does anyone on here go to or are planning to go to any of the events this year?
Hope you keep posting pics and stories.

Thanks

Hi Michael,

Glad you found this thread. A few tnf'rs including myself will be at the Sonoma Festival June 2-5 at the Infineon Raceway (Sears Point) watching the old trans-am cars run Friday and Saturday. They are the restored "real" cars.

For more info on those early years, check out the Camaro Research Group forum "trans-am camaros".

Thanks to Facebook another great series of Trans-Am photographs have surfaced! Fran (Francisco) Hernandez's sons set up this online memorial to keep their dad's name alive. Fran passed away Jan. 5, 2011. Although a great deal of his career and these images focus on NASCAR and Drag racing, he was also part of Mercury and Ford's efforts in the Trans-Am.

Hey Clay Thanks for posting these Pictures.

The first and third pictures under the heading –“August 14, 1971 TRANS AM race at Watkins Glen” are actually from the 1970 TA, determined by the livery of the Alfas, and also at the Glen , see blue Guard rail.

The first picture essentially shows the 1970 Start grid positions, see Corvette pace car pulling off. I make it: Pole- #3 Kwech GTA; 2nd-#25 Everett GTA; 3rd- BMW; 4th-#93 Midley GTA; 5th-#1 Wachs? (RHD GTA?); 6th-#58 Norman GTA; 7th another Alfa GTA.

I had not previously had a picture of #25 at the Glen in 1970.

The second Picture shows1971 the start grid first few cars.

The 5th picture is likely a C-sedan race and the red #5 Alfa likely Ammen/Rutherford Alfa GTAj 1300

May I take these over to the Alfa BB TA Thread?

BTW the restoration of Alfa GTA #25, AR*752507* is complete to her yellow 1972 livery and we had her back at the Glen for the Vintage GP this past September. After 39 years!!

Ciao

Ciao

Ken

Hey Ken I'm glad to hear that you GTA is finally finished and terrorizing the other old racecars. I cant wait to see it in action!

A while back I posted the above slides and a few of you were asking where I got them. Well they were part of an auction that I was trying to buy off Ebay. Now that the auctions are more than over, the pictures were put on Ebay by bigjohnbravo. Yes, that is his real name! He has great stuff but sadly the amount of Trans-Am related photos has trickled off. But he still has some fine car/racing photos for sale. I hope that you all enjoyed these awesome images and dont hold it against me for not releasing his name till after the actions were over. FYI he has never mentioned who the photographer was only that he had got them from an estate sale. That said, thank you bigjohnbravo for making sure that they got into the hands of Trans-Am enthusiasts. And thank you mystery photographer for capturing the spirit of these race cars. I love these photos and would love to see more of them.

Thanks

Touring Car Masters while entertaining is a parity form of racing. Win and you get a lead trophy!
The cars really are getting out of hand with alloy headed Valiant motors, Hemis where slant 6s should live. All the Chevs, Fords and AMC, as well as Toranas and Monaros are using 9" Ford diffs,,, and Jericho gearboxes.
But the latest is Jim Richards AMC with a 360 Mopar engine, Jericho and 9". And was fast first time out.
In other words they are total hotrods with no resemblance to the manufacturers specs.

I was on google and I came across some awesome images posted by our very own Jon Mello to the camaro.org site. These are some of the best i have ever seen and well worth looking at. I am not sure how long it took him to scan them in, but it is nice to see that they survived in such great condition. Ron Lathrop the credited photographer had one hell of an eye!

A NOTE TO JON: Please keep us up to date when you post images or post them over here so we can also see them too. Your dedication and enthusiasm is awesome and appreciated by many.

I saw some trans-am back in the day at Riverside and Vegas. Absolutely great. I wonder why NASCAR on road courses Doesn't recapture the magic.
