There is some confusion over the Karam-Saavedra situation.

"I'm grateful to Chip and the team for their ongoing commitment to me, and I can't wait to get back in the car at Barber," Karam said.

Saavedra, who has been available since parting with KV at the end of last season, will race at Barber the Indy road course - where he earned pole last year - and Sonoma.

"I'm looking forward to Long Beach" (Saavedra)

Not exactly straight forward.

"The Srakka Dome-Nissan S103, the only LMP2 runner on Michelin tyres, was quickest in class with Jonny Kane driving.

His time of 2m23.672s put him just over a second clear of the Dunlop-shod Jota Sport Gibson-Nissan 015S in the hands of Harry Tincknell.

Porsche led the way in GTE Pro: Kevin Estre, on loan from McLaren for this race, topped the times on a 2m26.055s, which put him six tenths up on Manthey team-mate Frederic Makowiecki."

http://www.autosport...t.php/id/118720 and

Kane's time with the Strakka was 2.32.672 and Estre's time was 2.36.065 - according the result list posted in the same article.

From Dieter Rencken's otherwise excellent open letter to CVC.

Ironically, on the eve of last week's Strategy Group meet, F1 celebrated exactly 65 years since its 1950 inauguration.

65 years since the start of the World Championship.  Formula 1 dates back a couple of years before then.

13th wasn't on row three even in the days of 4-4-4 grids, but with 3-3-3 grids, 13th is definitely on row five...

In this context graft just means hard work, effort.

The last car in the list (Wainwright/Carroll/Keen Gulf Porsche) was never on the entry list, it was always a reserve and was only present at the test day.

"Toro Rosso's Max Verstappen, who had a drive-through penalty for making contact with Williams' Valtteri Bottas, battled his way up to a career-best fourth place."

The drive-through wasn't for the contact with Valtteri but for speeding during the SC period.

On the mobile version of the site: after you reply to a private message, the internal 'back' button (arrow at top left of screen) doesn't work in the same way it does the rest of the time. It becomes very clunky to get out of the conversation and back to a useful menu.

Apologies if this has been noted previously, didn't have time to search.

Verstappen was seventh and Sainz ninth - as your own list of practice times in the same article shows. I guess you missed Max's later improvement.

I upgraded to Win 10 some time ago. Auto login was working for Autosport for a while but has now stopped.

I haven't changed any settings and can't see why it's not working.

The same problem occurs on a couple of other sites but others are unaffected.

Any ideas?

"IndyCar drivers Sebastien Bourdais and Simona de Silvestro are making their Bathurst debuts this weekend, with Walkinshaw Racing and Prodrive Racing Australia respectively.
Fellow Europeans, former Audi LMP1 driver Alex Premat and factory Corvette GT racer Oliver Gavin are the other internationals in the field, making their fourth and second visits to Mount Panorama."

There is a fifth "international" in the field, Alex Buncombe (factory Nissan driver in GT3 and in LMP1) in the #7 Nissan.

Try toggling the icon at the top left of the reply box that looks like a light switch. This turns the format from WYSIWYG to a much more basic format which is more user-friendly. Doing this is the only way that I (and many others) can insert links, quotes, images etc. It's a very unsatisfactory situation that doesn't look as if it will ever be resolved. :well:

An update to the technical regulations, published on Wednesday, confirmed that from July 1 total power from the Williams Advanced Engineering battery will be capped at 250kW, up from 200kW.

However, the regulations state as following:

As from 01 July 2016 The maximum total power going out of the RESS is limited to 200 kW 250 kW 200kW .

It looks like they are staying at 200 kW instead of increasing to 250 kW...  :drunk:

Guys, you have now confused me. That it will stay on 200 kW level was already in the regulations released on Wednesday, the same day you have reported otherwise. There are no amendments since then? Just confused... thanks.

"The situation surrounding Maldonado's seat has been further complicated by the fact a general election was held in Venezuela in early December, with president Nicolas Maduro being deposed as leader."

The election was for choosing a new parliament. It was not a presidential election, so Maduro is not deposed. He is still president.

From the Gary Anderson Q&A

3) Mid-corner is the most complicated area. The car is loaded up so some roll will be evident, and also some yaw to generate the tyres' slip angle, plus steering lock. How much steering lock you have will depend on the corner radius, but something like three degrees for fast corners, six degrees for medium-speed and nine degrees for slow-speed is about right.

Is he talking about slip angle, steering lock(the angle of the wheel in the hands) or steering lock(the wheel of the wheels on the ground)? Those figures sound right for tire slip, way way too low for steering wheel angle. Depending on the ratio of steering-to-wheels, maybe correct for the angle of the front wheels themselves?

Also

Each of these components will then be designed to to this level plus a safety factor

This article is factually incorrect: Sebastian Vettel and Daniil Kvyat collide again during Russian GP.

Sebastian Vettel and Danill Kvyat collided for the second successive race with the former ending up in the wall on lap one of the Russian Grand Prix.

I believe the appropriate word would be clashed rather than collided. To collide suggests physical contact. No collision occurred between the drivers in China but they certainly clashed afterwards.

The latest headline on Autosport to do with the Spanish Qualifying results has a major error.

"Daniel Ricciardo qualified third fastest for Red Bull, six tenths behind Rosberg's Mercedes and just over two tenths clear of new team-mate Max Verstappen, who had split the Mercedes after the first runs in Q3."

Daniel was actually just over 4 tenths quicker than Max, and the real times are even listed below this.

While I realise that the focus in the Do F1 drivers' careers go on too long? article is on the post-1950 World Championship, it is surely worth adding a caveat that - in addition to the fifteen seasons cited - Maurice Trintignant made his Grand Prix racing debut in 1938 and competed in every possible year thereafter; 1939 and 1945-49. Thus he was active over a total of 22 seasons, surpassing both Barrichello and Schumacher.
