Seriously, does anyone at Autosport even proof read an article ?

Have a read through this latest on the website, and see if you can pick out any mistakes.

It's so bad that just looks like a copy & paste gone wrong.

In today's article entitled "How F1 2016 would have gone without Mercedes", Force India appear to have been cheated out of 100 points and one position. By summing the driver totals, they should be on 286 points (not 186), well ahead of Williams on 242.

Not very sure, but it seems to me that it should read  "These red-and-white barriers made of polyethylene are filled with plastic, foam and sometimes sand, and offer a significantly better energy dispersion dissipation when a car hit them."

Teams are likely to switch over to their second scheduled power units around the time of the Spanish or Monaco Grands Prix, with the third units perhaps coming into play at the British or Hungarian races in July.

All Renault teams are already on their 2nd engine since Russia.

Claire Williams: F1 rookie Lance Stroll should be given a break

Somewhat ambiguous headline. The Williams team boss (is she? the article doesn't mention what her job is) is asking critics to be mindful of Stroll's inexperience, not suggesting that Lance Stroll is going to take a Massa-in-2002-style break from racing to restore his confidence.

Confusing word choice in Formula 1 drivers' GPDA backs controversial 2018 FIA halo decision

It has been known for some time that teams and some drivers were against it on visual grounds.

Does that mean visual grounds as in "it's hard to see out of the cockpit", or visual grounds as in "the car looks butt-ugly"?

FYI - on your “The unexpected street-race warning F1 must heed” article, you write: “New Montreal mayor Valarie Plante has hinted that she is in favour of keeping the FE race, but not at the street track, suggesting that it could be run on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, a short distance away on Belle Isle”

Well Belle Isle is in Detroit, not Montreal.

Cheers

"Of the F1 drivers still racing, Fernando Alonso was rated sixth in the list, while current Ferrari racer Sebastian Vettel was 10th and Felipe Massa was ranked 12th."

Surely Raikkonen (ranked 2nd) is still racing? And Massa was never WCD with Ferrari so not sure why he is included.

In Valtteri Bottas changed Mercedes F1 team's view on driver line-ups

"Nico put us in front of a fate accompli - there was not even a discussion [about retiring] - and it was difficult to find the right driver, but we gave it some time to decide and eventually we got just the right guy into the team," Wolff told Autosport.

Should be fait accompli, or indeed fait accompli.

Can we report mistakes on Forix here too? I've noticed the Detroit track maps are reversed. The one labelled 1982 is the one without the tight hairpin and the one labelled 1983 has the hairpin and shouldn't have it.

I can't reproduce that. It's often due to a link to a badly coded page or advert. The latter might be based on your browsing history and/or served up by your ISP. Try clearing your browser cache - that may fix it.

You've obviously not got anyone with a clue about the 1950s.  Still not corrected the above, and here...

Only one Italian - Alberto Ascari - has ever won the F1 drivers' title with Ferrari.

...Ascari never won the F1 drivers' title.  He won the World Championship, but it was run to Formula 2 regulations the years he won.

Without splitting hairs too much, he won what is now known as the F1 drivers' title or the F1 WDC. Though as you say, he won it when it was run to F2 regulations.

Where it's relevant (such in some of the features where our writers go into specific records and stats which stand because of the distinction), we'll go into more detail about what we're counting as part of the history of the F1 World Championship. In particular, we'll draw attention to the fact that the Indy 500 rounds used to count as that makes for some particularly anomalous records and stats. But our subeditors will try make sure that a 40 word introduction doesn't get that bogged down in detail!

In the News section on Alonso going to Indycar in 2019...

"Having won the Monaco Grand Prix twice and secured a maiden Le Mans victory earlier this year, Alonso needs only Indy 500 success to complete motorsport's unofficial 'Triple Crown'."

The 'unofficial Triple Crown is the WDC, the Indy 500 and Le Mans NOT the Monaco GP.

The calendar thingy for the next F1 race on the front page looks wonky for me in Firefox and IE/Edge. In Chrome, this issue does not show up.

The "local time" option shows the time fine:

uS5mvsY.png

But the "your time" option also puts in the name of the timezone, which makes the whole thing ugly and confusing. In Chrome, both options look like the "local time" one.

It's definitely not meant to look like that at all - the way it's looking for you in Chrome is what we were intending!

Do you have any sort of plug-in for Firefox which attempts to convert times? If not, could you let me know which version of Firefox you're using and what sort of operating system (Windows, MacOS, etc) you're on?

Firefox 63.0.1 (with NoScript and ublock origin, but both turned off for this website).

Same problem in IE 11 and Edge, both standard as they are in Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, without any addons.

Everything German language versions, if that makes any difference.

This must be some relatively recent thing, I noticed it for the first time a couple weeks ago but was too lazy to post here back then.

Just to see if it is only my Windows install, I tried it in two Linux VM I have here, with unmodified browsers. In both Firefox on Ubuntu and Fedora (both with German language settings), I also get the strange timezone descriptions:

There was one really annoying thing about the live updates today, as soon as you loaded the page it would automatically start playing a video with 3 autosport journalist talking about Williams. That video was buried in the massive amount of updates so it wasn’t easy to find at first.

Sorry about that - that was a mistake with the code for that embedded video.

That was fixed a couple of hours later and we'll be careful to pick it up much more quickly if it happens again!

For the last week, the autosport.com/f1 pages don't load pictures without at least 1 refresh, usually 2-3. The classic.autosport.com pages have no problems, as do all the other websites I visit. I'm using the same computer, software, everything. The only thing to change for many years is the fact that your, and only your pictures won't load the first time.
