"So, you've got 45 cars entered for Silverstone - is that the biggest FF2000 grid ever?"
Well, is it? I certainly don't know...
All input gratefully received.

As some TNFers will know, I have a particular interest in Historic FF2000. I realise that FF2000 is pretty insignificant in the greater scheme of things, but I need to be able to answer some questions. In the UK, the Historic Sports Car Club run HFF2K races for us. We're currently enjoying a huge amount of interest in our series, and I'm being asked the following question several times a day...

Can't answer the question but my £10 says it is the biggest field ever. Thanks to you guys for putting on a brilliant show last month at Britain's best circuit (Cadwell of course) .I believe you are visiting Croft later this year - my local track ? If so , I'm the grey haired old git with the BRM liveried Caterham- I mention this because if we get the usual crowd I will represent about 10% of it....

Alan, my old Mallory progs show that an entry of 51 cars was received there on the August Bankie meet, 1977. Of course only 20 could have started there, so it doesn't challenge the forthcoming S'stone grid, but is this the largest entry I wonder?
The entry included a 'block' of 11 Dutch entries, all in Crossle 33Fs (including Desire in an F&S car). No idea whether they all showed up, or indeed any of the Cloggie Crossles, as I didn't attend the meeting. 11 different marques, who can guess them all, without recourse to the prog!
Main race won by Wilson from Farthing, Bullman, Gray and Notz. Consolation race by Henneman from Kirkby and Wil Arif.

I always liked FF2000. Full credit for getting such an impressive entry, even more so considering the current financial climate

Probably not. After all, 1977 was the year of Rad Dougall in the Royale RP25, not to mention the Scorpion Racing RP25 of his fellow countryman, Kenny Gray.
That year, I'm sure they had second races for the slower qualifiers, as per Dan's post.

We can only claim six of those at Silverstone, although there will be some Royales racing as well. There is a Crosslé that races with us usually, one of our drivers has a CTG under restoration and there is a Palliser for sale at the moment at a very realistic price. I would love to see an Elden out with us, and I'm surprised that no Hawkes have surfaced, as they were a very good car in period.
Delta (an occasional TNF poster) has a Penfold (or PMD?) to restore, and I've heard whispers of a Saracen that might be around.
There were loads of others, though... http://www.historicf...ufacturers.html
If any TNFers are around, please come and say hello, I'll probably be lurking around garages 9A to 10C, then after the race, desperately trying to organise a barbecue.

What was the Ton 74 of Syd Fox that I mentioned earlier 'The Old Nail', as seems likely? It went well enough!
Yep, an old re-worked Palliser and usually up towards the front with Syd at the wheel during 1977 and 1978 if not beyond.

If i remember right it went well enough to win a championship, was it in 1978?.I think the car was based on a Palliser F3 car, well set up and very well driven by Syd FoxWhat was the Ton 74 of Syd Fox that I mentioned earlier 'The Old Nail', as seems likely? It went well enough!

All I can think of from 77 is Tiga, Ray, Nomad. Was there an Osella?

There was also the M.P.D. of Peter Cooke, and Rick Morris's Sarazin SF78 (as opposed to Saracen), & Chris Fearon's Titan Mk10.

I've never heard of a Sarazin, although Rick Morris did drive a Saracen which had been modified with a wide nose. I'll have to ask Peter Hampsheir about it next time I speak to him.

I also doubt the "Sarazin"
Me too Dan; support race for the 1978 Gold Cup & a probable programme error.

Nomad? Was that the Phil Lloyd car?

It was indeed Mark, the Nomad IV Scholar which I have just found entered in a BAF round in July 1978 at Oulton. And lo and behold, entered by Oakley Coachbuilders / Sarazen Racing Cars in the same event is Rick Morris in a Sarazen SF78 Scholar, so it's unlikely to have been mispelt twice; Cirrus???

Cirrus re the Sarazin/Saracen Rick Morris car. Did you ever get to what Rick was driving? I'm writing up part 2 of Whatever Happened to the Gold Cup and really don't want to propagate a 1976 mis-spelling!!!!!!!

Rick Morris definitely drove the Saracen FF2000. I'm 99.9% certain that Sarazin is a mis-spelling.

Me too, Alan, definite typo! I wonder if the season will provide a bigger grid/entry than 44. From what you tell me, its very possible

Quite posssibly, Dan. We're up around 40 already for several of our races this year, with a number of expected entries still to come.
