Only a Poll not a thread as no point in discussing it as it already fills gigabytes in other threads, nor is a poll about Christian Horner

Question is meerkat simple should Dietrich Mateschitz jettison Dr Helmut Marko before he wrecks more havoc on the Red Bull brand.?

agree that Marko’s credibility is shot. Most serious F1 fans who know him don’t take him too seriously, but when he was talking to German RTL TV and blaming Webber, that’s not very nice is it? Especially for the German viewers who don’t follow F1 seriously.

Here is a small list of Helmut Marko’s social ineptitude.

- Blew the annoucement of DC’s retirement because of his excitement of Vettel going into DC’s seat (insensitive to DC)
- In the winter of 09 while Webber was struggling with fitness and a broken leg, kept talked about how slow Webber was and how Vettel was wiping the floor with him in testing
- Makes blatant cocky statements that makes the team as a whole look bad.. saying things like “with Merc engines he’d be uncatchable at the front”.
- Takes Vettel’s side in everything, he is basically Vettel’s propaganda minister
- In generally insensitive and just blurts stuff out, without thinking beforehand.

If Marko was Vettel’s father, he would be seen differently. But he is the consultant to team owner, and is an official spokesperson in the team. Marko’s comments are seen as “team” comments.

As long as he is working within the team, I have no respect for Marko or for the Redbull brand and team as a whole. And I have no idea how Webber is able to be so calm and diplomatic in these situations.

He can be a douche on his own time, he's created enough awkward situations for the team already. Anyway, if he's in charge of "Red Bull Driver Development" or whatever, why is he at the GP's? Shouldn't he be at a formula ford race or something.

He is there because Dieter wants him there.

He is Dieter's eyes and ears I think.

I'm pretty sure Horner has to explain himself to Helmut - not the other way around...

That's the thing, in the eyes of top management he's just echoing the thoughts.

Marko is a cancer not only for Red Bull but also for many other drivers and personel. He comes across as extremely arrogant but has nothing to show for except Red Bull's check book. The list of drivers careers he ruined rivals that of Flav.
Even in Austria he isn't very popular.

Let us be fair to Marco, to begin with.

Who is Marco, after all?

He is a very close person to Mateschitz, ex-German Formula One driver and... ? He leads Red Bull young drivers campaign. Austrian born in 1943, Graz. Winner at Le Mans.

Shows how boring F1 is when there are topics created around whether a member of a team's management should be sacked. What next, a poll on whether the coffee the team uses is decaf or not?

Seriously, what a bore. Move on, let's talk about the racing rather than a member of the management team.

Most of all Marko is a liability to Red Bull's sporting image. The guy is a really bad team player. He is damaging the trust in Red Bull. He seems to have an ego problem. It would be best for Red Bull to get rid of him. At the very least they should make sure he is not being viewed as a representative for the racing team. I bet many people don't even know his real role or job within RB.

I think it's fine to debate about the crash, there certainly was some strange stuff going on at RB camp, but people are starting to over-react now. Marko's various appearances to the media in the last few years have always rubbed me the wrong way too, but we don't really know how much worth is his work behind closed doors, do we?

For a pair of eyes and ears he sure uses the mouth a lot. Turkey was a disaster, the old man was shaking with anger and barfed all over Webber without having much fact behind him. Maybe he is good behind a desk, but it is clear he does not handle stress or excitement well.

"Owner's Representative" is a destructive role to even exist in a team, whoever does it. The Team Principal should be top dog, end of.

It's all good for the other teams though :)

With all respect to Marko as well as your opinion, I do agree with Hippo on this. Still I am no man to decide that he must go, it is about fan's voice.

The presnece of Helmut Marko is creating just one big agony around the way Red Bull racing. Sad ending to me that Now I hate Red Bull with strong determination.

Red Bull under Helmut Marko is not a fair racing team as they promote themselves with.

That's the kind of over-reaction I'm talking about. You guys are starting to sound like all those spaniards turning against Ron Dennis in 2007. I do think Webber fans have a little more reason to be upset than Alonso fans at that time, but still. "Hate with strong determination"? :drunk:

Yes, perhaps he is. That doesn't change the fact that the team principal should be the ultimate authority within a team. Marko's role with the team in untenable no matter who held it.

Incidentally, Helmut Marko's job seems to have a close link with those as well..

Silly question, IMO.

He acts in their best interest and has been very successful.

They're not going to sack him.

(Having said that, I still think it stinks what is going on at RBR)

I've heard at a Mark Webber Supporters event a year or so again when asked about Marko, Webber said something to the effect of he just doesn't bother taking anything he says to heart/seriously. Seemed (from explanations I was given) that Mark has just decided to ignore him rather than anything else. Mark also knows it's in his best interests to not publicly attack the guy that has a direct line to DM.

true that's what I thought also but I read awhile back by someone on here that they don't give a sh*t what their rep is to F1 fans. Compared to the billions they will engage by having a picture of a red bull champion on the front pages and on point of sale in stores with the number 1 on it. There are many f1 fans but a hell of a lot more than only see the front page and hear "number 1" and champion and have no idea and never will about what red bull did.

He probably should, yet he won't, if I understand anything how it works between them correctly. Mateschitz totally trusts Dr.Marko. If anything, they will make the internal line clear that it is a Vettel team, but if they do, it could heavily backfire on them. I am sure Adrian Newey would not be too happy about Teutonic predominance - if they were to wreck Mark's chances I think it would dent Newey's motivation.

Quite a sensible statement by paranoik0 here, we don't know how much Dr.Helmut Marko is worth behind closed doors. A man like DC would be able to tell, then again, would he tell any internals?

Mark is doing a stunning job to drive like he is under such pressure let alone stay calm and impartial in interviews.

Mark got bagged on a bit earlier this year for his mistakes but I hope he destroys Vettel in the races now.

Vettel has a long career infront of him, Red Bull should show some class and let Webber have his shot at the title, he probably won't get another one.

Who knows about contract?

Have Kimi told the world that he was moving to Ferrari from Mclaren?

have Alonso did that?

Now, Do Marko tells in one day that:

1. Mark must decide on his Red Bull future within a few days.
2. Marko wants Kimi, but Webber is there.

What conclusion do you draw from?

I take the one that Marko is trying to manipulate Kimi fans, which is big and let them join the Rd Bull band wagon.

In six month time we will have the same discussion, only next time around, it will be Kimi against Vettel, while Mark Weber with wopping 100 million Euro settlement on his contract in Bahama.

none sense to me.

I know everyone has the knives out for Marko at the moment, but that's pure nonsense. Firstly, a duff online syndicate is 'reporting' he's made suggestions about Raikkonen (though no direct quotes, strange that, eh?), and secondly, Marko isn't a marketing guru wanting to string anyone along.

But this is all by-the-by. Webber's one-year deal extension with Red Bull is imminent. Expect an announcement soon.

That was Franz Tost who lost it with Speed no? Lest we forget that Scott Speed still reaps the benefits from Red Bull's backing in NASCAR Sprint Car Series, so he's hardly done bad a result.

Liuzzi? Well he failed to live up to his reputation that he showed before emerging in F1. It was only when Vettel became his team mate at Toro Rosso and Bourdais was on his way that the Italian upped his game - too little too late unfortunately.

Q. Some people commented after the race that Mark was to blame - why was that?

CH: Ultimately we win as a team and we lose as a team and on Sunday we lost as a team, as a result of our two drivers having an incident. Having looked at all the information it's clear that it was a racing accident that shouldn't have happened between two team-mates. After looking at all the facts that weren't available immediately after the race, Dr. Marko also fully shares this view.

Yeah right - I want to hear Marko say this...

Marko was part of teenage gang in Graz in 60s, together with Jochen Rindt and other similar characters. List of his social blunders are consequence of his teenage gang mentality. Either you are with Us or against Us. Objectivity plays little part there. Austrian journalist Heinz Pruller is of a similar mindset. Mindlessly blurting against anyone outside but finding no fault in those inside the gang.
