I really really wish someone would tell Santander to piss off with their crappy trophy's
They must have ordered them from China by containerload.

Their money is obviously welcome, particularly in these times... but there are risks associated with one sponsor being so pre-eminent.

They do seem to have a fairly loose interpretation on what constitutes a trophy these days. A plinth with any old rubbish stuck on it seems to do the trick.I understood that it is actually in the rules that trophies presented to drivers and team representative, should actually resemble a trophy or cup, or isn't it? So why are these hideous marketing ploys still allowed?
Those stupid blue recycled things from Brazil last year, for instance.

"The trophies, which must be in the form of traditional cups, will be provided by the ASN and must show:
a) the FIA Formula 1 World Championship official logo
b) the official name of the event
c) the driver’s position."

Just horrible.

Still better looking than the blue plastic steering wheels, or the old Tio Pepe trophies

PS funny aside but ... the Santander trophies are actually illegal as per the FIA's rules regarding trophies (yeah Mosley made trophy rules too)
4. TROPHIES
Only 4 trophies will be presented during the podium ceremony:
a) winning driver
b) a representative of the winning constructor
c) second driver
d) third driver.
The trophies, which must be in the form of traditional cups, will be provided by the ASN and must show:
a) the FIA Formula 1 World Championship official logo
b) the official name of the event
c) the driver's position.
The height of the trophies shall be:
a) winner's and constructor's trophies - no less than 50cm and no more than 65cm high
b) second and third drivers' trophies - no less than 35cm and no more than 45cm high
The maximum weight per trophy must not exceed 5 kilos. Trophies must be of a design that is capable of being handled and transported without damage.

What's particularly odd about those Santander monstrosities is that they almost certainly don't comply with the Sporting Regulations, which read:
"The trophies, which must be in the form of traditional cups, will be provided by the ASN and must show:
a) the FIA Formula 1 World Championship official logo
b) the official name of the event
c) the driver’s position."
I guess that rules out the Australian GP's Jack Brabham steering wheels too.

Half the trophies fall foul of those rules, I don't think the FIA even bother to enforce it. Not that we need rules for trophies in the first place.they are so gorgeous, they look like one of those paperweights I got from Santander Private Banking.

And yeah those Santander ones are baaad.

Well I wouldn't worry to much about it as I seriously doubt there is any chance of it happening.

You people are shallow as hellA great win preserved in the amber of our memories with Alonso holding aloft the crassest turd statue ever to commemorate the choice of filthy lucre over dignity. Someone just **** on my sport.

Well maybe just for safety reasons. I really wouldn't like to fall on one of those Spanish Grand Prix spike trophies.

What do you expect - crap trophies for a crap bank/ company......
You should do a little research of Santander's movements, specially during the crisis and nowadays before claming such idiocy.
Regarding the trophies, nothing I could care less. I never take notice of driver's trophies at all.

Lol, I heard Alonso buys his underwear from Marks and Spencers, I suppose we are not allowed to say anything bad against them too?
Anyway, yes the trophies are awful, but really, does anyone care that much? I doubt the drivers even bother to keep them anymore do they?

Silverstone and Monaco are still the best last true ones. And I love how the Silverstone winner trophie is the best and different to the runner ups, as it should be.
I think Silverstone has a historic winner's trophy, and then 2nd and 3rd are Santander trophies.

So did the funny blue one from brazil last year.
That wasn't funny. Wrap up some dried dog **** in a blue plastic and then have the impudence to call it a trophy.

The rule for trophies should be that they cannot merely be representations of company logos. Actually I think there should be no visible sponsorship aspect of the trophies.
That would surely lead Spanish GP trophies out:

Actually looking in the Autosport gallery I notice they had a (modern) steering wheel for a few years too. Which makes sense at a motor race.
That was a Marlboro trophy.

Cut the childish trolling. I have no problem at people saying bad things. My problem is with people saying things that are not true. You are allowed to say all the things you feel like to, but I'm allowed to debate them if I want.
I just pointed out something obvious. How can someone say Santander is a crap company? I just asked the poster to do a little research about the company before claming such a thing.

The problem is not Santander, they are looking for publicity and they put their logo as a trophy, obvious. The problem is that they are allowed to do that.Thing is, Spain surely has dozens of top-class artists who could come up with something intriguing, it is the country of Picasso, Goya, Miro and Gaudi after all, and would offer services gratis for the publicity. Shame Santander doesn't do something along those lines.
