Does anyone have photos of this Repco powered sports car?

I am sure someone out there will come up with something. However, in the meantime, as a point of reference, there are some photos of the car taken at the time it raced (which wasn't very often). Autosport May 6th 1966 has a picture of Brabham at the Oulton TT. Also, "Motor Racing 1966/67" (Motor Racing Magazine's annual) has a photo taken at the same meeting. I know there is another photo in a period magazine that I have but for the moment cannot remember which or where.

Yes, it is quite similar to the BT8.

I've just remembered where the other picture is. There is very good shot of the car in Anthony Pritchard's book "Specialist British Sports/Racing Cars of the Fifties & Sixties" published by Osprey (page 28).

Apologies if I am telling you what you already know, but the car had a fairly brief competition history, which probably explains the paucity of pictures of the car. It certainly raced at Oulton in the TT in 1966. It was definitely entered in the Gp 7 race at the Silverstone International Trophy meeting but the Motor Sport report makes no mention of the car so I am not sure if it started - it certainly didn't figure in the results. It was also due to race at the Guards Trophy at Brands on the August Bank Holiday but shortly before the start of the first part it suffered a transistor box failure. The Autosport report doesn't say whether Jack got the car going for part 2 but again it certainly didn't feature in the results. And that may well be the sum of Jack's participation with the car - unless someone knows differently?

Not one of Jack Brabham's better efforts, but then again, he was rather preoccupied with winning the F1 World title that year, as well dominating formula 2!

The car was at the Road America Historics once or twice about 20 years ago, give or take. If I recall, it was then owned by Art Valdez. I have some photos of it in my archives somewhere. It did have the Repco V-8 installed.

Great photos. The first car is often in alloy and subsequent cars in 'glass. I suspect that the front was BT8 and a new rear was made to accommodate larger engine, bigger wheels and the nice Kamm tail. Ron T had no love of sports cars because the design was compromised by the body which he had no control over. Had they the resources to make this car a winner (it was on pole in one of its 2 races) Brabham Racing may well have created the equivalent of the Lola T70. An interesting case of what might have been. It was the engine (4.3 litre Repco-Brabham) that let them down and the focus was on the new 3 litre Formula One where I believe they did quite well.

Does anyone please have a photograph taken of the rear of the car as it appeared at Oulton Park, a fellow slot car builder is currently carving a bodyshell of this car and this picture would be extremely useful.

 

I checked my copy of The Jack Brabham Story which was signed for me by the great man at Brands Hatch a few years ago but this car doesn't even get a mention in the book.

I just thought I'd have a quick scratch around TNF given the current BT17 chat on the Motorclassica thread.

 

Given there's no previously posted photos left within this thread, we may as well post some from Motorclassica. These two taken the day after Nigel had taken possession of the car.

Ta Stephen at the time John Maher who perhaps could build any Repco V8 with the parts he owns ,asked me if I knew of the BT17.

Rob, It's taken several years for Nigel to acquire. He mentioned he's been after the car for 11 years.

 

Would that be the same John Maher who had a Ferrari 275GTB some 25 or 30 years ago?

Yep same one ,1st guy to go under 5 seconds in Australia over the 1/4 mile. Lots of great Ferrari cars and others ,has had another 275 for about 10 years .
