Am going through some old photos of Bulawayo racing, thought they may be of some interest to you guys. Does anybody have the race programme available so we can identify who drove this Mini and was it considered a Marcos or what?

Heres a pic for Doug of R3 in its Peter Parnell colours of royal blue with a white noseband. I've always wondered if John Love messed around with the DFV exhaust layout after some tip off from the factory or do you think this was just a mod he came up with himself? I seem to remember he had a business Auto Exhausts in Bulawayo? Maybe he just decided to play...

Great photos.

I don't know who the Mini was raced by, but it is inspired by the Neville Trickett built MiniSprint GTR race car from the UK in late 1965. Although given the treatment 'your' car has been given it makes the Trickett car look tame.

Did not George Armstrong the Mini racer from South Africa build that car? Seem to be similar to one I am sure he raced a few times

Interesting photo. I don't remember seeing that exhaust configuration before. Also, it has a very non-Chapmanesque roll-over bar.

The Mini may belong to the Glasby family?

Again on that exhaust configuration on R3. He changed it April 1969, because he didn't have it at Hesketh on 7/4/69 but has it at the Rand Autumn Trophy on 26/4/69. Given that he was big mates with Ken Tyrrell, I wonder if he tried to copy the Matra MS84 exhaust layout. Any idea when that Matra first appeared?

The Matra MS84 first appeared at a race meeting at the Dutch GP at the end of June, but I'm not sure if that was its first public appearance.

Horizon I assume this Lister would be the one that John Love had a few races in? I know in John's autobiography by Adri Bezuidenhout, there is a nice side on shot of him in the car. PM me and I'll give you the info that I have. As for knowing Jimmy de Villiers, well he farmed in the Hartley area in the early 70s, and by then he had lost a leg to diabetes, and had quite a temper on him as I recall. The local bank manager of the day was absolutely terrified of him. I recall a court case brought on by his farm manager who accused Jimmy of threatening to shoot him. I don't recall the outcome of the case. Sam Tingle bought Jimmy's Dodge transporter (for Jimmy's ERA) and used it to ferry his A type Connaught around. I have a photo of that outfit somewhere. Sam was very fond of Jimmy and thought he was a good bloke. I left Hartley in 1973 and lost touch of what ever became of him?

Found a crappy old photo of the Cooper Borgward of Mike Harris if anyone is interested.

Lovely pictures LDS. Thank you.

That Mirage was born out of one of the LDS car I believe

And Scamp Porter's unbelivable R8 set the benchmark in the 1300cc class
