In my book there' been only four REAL periods of competitive racing for the official works Corvette Racing team. Saleens and whatsnots have always been knocking on the door, but the actual factory-supported opponents were the real deal. And who would those be?

-> Late 90's to early 2000's: Corvette vs Oreca Viper
-> Early 2000's to mid 2000's: Corvette vs Prodrive Ferrari
-> Mid 2000s to late 2000's: Corvette vs Prodrive Aston Martin
-> Late 2000's to early 2010's: Corvette vs everyone

Which has been your favourite battle in Le Mans and ALMS?

Not gonna lie, I was curious as I thought you'd left an 'l' off of Vette and wondered why you were being so specific to a certain group of fans.

Now I feel like a tool.

I couldn't say for sure but it was really satisfying seeing them trump Ferrari in Le Mans 24 this year ;)

It was a bit lucky win this year I admit, #74 got massively helped by the first SC and #73 didn't have to worry too much after the AF Corse car started to deal with their growing reliability issues. But yeah it was a quite satisfying victory after such a difficult start to GT2/GTE campaign, those beemers and co are giving them a good fight.

Shame for Ollie thou, he's had to retire THREE years in a row from class leading position now.

I voted for the Aston, but I also remember how the ALMS really neutered the Aston as early on it looked as if the car was going to run away with the championship.

Really, 2006 was the only season Prodrive run DBR9 full season in ALMS, and I recall IMSA handing plenty of extra ballast to Corvette more often than not so that Dave Richards would stop his unjustified public outcries.

This year, sat at Indianapolis watching the Vette catch the Luxury Ferrari and then seeing it come past ahead. We were the only people noticed and cheered, people thought we were mad.

Vette/Viper battles of the late 90s and early 00s. Nothing comes close.

I knew one of the cars was screwed with.

While I did vote for this, on track it was awesome, but off track, politics really made the race close.

There is and has always been some debate behind the curtains, more so on the other side of the pond.. but it was a marvelous battle. Prodrive's ALMS effort was admittely a bit poorly executed thou, the four Le Mans outings with vette were the real deal (2005-08).

I thought you meant VETTEL and that this was another thread from lewis or fernando fans to make sure we all know that Vettel isn't as good as them. Which he is.

I didn't really wanna bother with another thread so let's just throw this here:
http://media.gm.com/...10-webcast.html

This is the official 2014 Corvette C7 production car revelation which will be streamed live from Detroit tonight at midnight (UK time). This is all very exciting for us, even though we pretty much know the look of the car thanks to dozens of websites. Note that this presentation has nothing to do with the Corvette C7.R, that will be announced later as the 2014 season approaches. Mr Gavin said yesterday that the hope is to have the car ready for the 2014 edition of the Daytona 24h, so obviously this will be the final year of running for the factory (GT2) C6.Rs.

My most lasting memory on Corvette:

2001, a rained out race: miles ahead of the opposition, and then surrender at least 2 or so places in the overall standing because of parking a healty enough to continue car for more ten half an hour in th pits.
Talk about showing confidence in the drivers and the car....

Sweetest result of that: a much laughed off LMP2 car with nothing more than a humble VW engine ending up in fifth place overall. Not even mentioning two Porsche of the GTS2 category also putting the Corvette further down in the overall standings.
Most laughable result: Corvette advertising winning the class in the Le Mans 24 hours instead of what was by own choice a "Le Mans Less than 24 hours"

Definitely not their finest hour other then that their direct opponents in the class did even worse.....

Sorry but I didn't vote: found the year but not the reasons why I remember the year so well....
By the way: Vette in my language means "Fat" like in "Fat men". Some associations with the cars you have in mind can't escape me.....
