Has he always had his race number bold on his helmet?
I've just noticed in a couple of pics of his older helmets that he's had his race number.
Understandable in motogp etc where you can keep your number, but so keen to display a number you get for 1 year?

So as we go into 2013, i suspect we will see a new design from Kimi... maybe the #7 will be prominent like the #9 last season?

Don't believe we will see big changes in helmet design. The Lotus cars don't change colour wise. And Kimi hardly changed his helmet from 2003 to 2005 when McLaren had the same colours. Would only expect the number 9 be changed in a 7.

Kimi hasn't changed his helmet much in past 6 years, I hope he will change his helmet a bit more this time and maybe towards to his James Hunt monaco helmet at least in colour side....but his all time best helmets are still mcLaren 2004 monaco helmet,2002,2003-2005 mclaren helmets.

I didn't say almost black...black main colour with Kimi's usual top and then other colours/ sponsors would be nice. If he would go back to his McLaren type of helmets that would be even better as the current one is not on that level althought it's nice.

Honestly, I think the simpler, the better. Most modern helmets are all too fidgety and detailed, don't like it at all. The Graham Hill/Damon Hill design is one of the best ever if you ask me.

That said, I quite like Kimi's 2012 design, it's simple enough to be made out on the TV screen and quite unique. Don't think there will be huge changes.

How about a replica of Romain's helmet? Or one of the other drivers?
A cool idea which you see a fair bit in the bike racing, is different designs on each side of his helmet.
Is there a thread for best helmets ever?

Piquet/Prost had truly excellent designs. Recognizable and original. Compared to that, Alonso's, Vettel's, Schumacher's are boring, dull and zero design interesting.

As for Kimi, can anyone photoshop the "7" insted of the "9" ?

Kimi's 2012 lid is my favourite design of the past few years... clean and simple and bold, making it easy to spot in the car. In fact I've just bought a 1/2 scale replica and hoping it arrives soon!

IMO if the FIA are going to do nothing about insisting teams make car numbers visible, easy to spot helmets are essential.

Raikkonen and Massa agreed to trade helmets and Kimi just dropped his off with Felipe. But he also came with a surprise for Felipe's son: A miniature replica of his helmet. That's just straight up cool.

I think getting a replica helmet is the least of the reasons why that kid is lucky.
