Gave it an 8 because two thirds of the race was a bit boring comparable to Monaco a fortnight ago. Kind of wish Vettel put up more of a fight when Hamilton was about to pass him but Vettel didn't even try because he knew how bad his tyres were. Alonso put up a bit of a better fight than Vettel but ultimately had no answer to Hamiltons much better tyres. 2011 Canadian Grand Prix was much better barring the 2 hour red flag session its a shame Button couldn't make it work this year.
I think that everyone has missed the point here. All of this years races have been decided by one single component on the cars and that is the tyres! The tyres are so inconsistent that it does seem like a lucky dip and from comments made by Pirelli, it seems like that is what Bernie asked for. At no time in recent F1 history could a small team challenge the big factory teams until now. Why? Their tyres just seemed to perform better than all the others !!
Tyres have even made the engine out put look unimportant, the poor old engine fails to get a mention in race commentary, it's all TYRES! TYRES! TYRES! It's true that we have seen some of the most exciting racing for a long time and it was desperately needed because F1 was heading down the gurgler! What worries me is that maybe and I mean just maybe, this whole tyre issue has been contrived to save F1. If you have been watching F1 for awhile, you would agree that it was so boring that it made Sailing look exciting, the only possible overtaking was in the pits and after all the pit stops were over, we were back to the boring race again until the finish!
These tyres can not even be classed as a CONTROL tyre because even if you are on the super soft, that doesn't mean that it's the same as all the other super softs! F1 has certainly lost the entire plot, it has turned into open wheel NASCAR, just waiting for the "DEBRIS ON TRACK" flag to come in! To us purists, the last big leap in technology within F1 came with the introduction of CARBON FIBRE, it has been going down hill ever since but I must admit that it has got all the Wally's out there excited and watching F1, so Bernie, even at his age is as smart as ever!!
